Always wanted to do this.

Seems like to a man who's fishing, say Black Lake (Campti/Natchitoches area - we used to have a camp there growing up), who normally just kind of jig fishes/worm fishes by trolling big tree to big tree, and flipping a jig/worm at the base of the tree should clean the frick up if he replaced said worm/jig with a BIG live crawfish.

Anyone ever done this? Results?

Only in run outs. I've seen guys doing in on TB out on ridges. No idea if more effective.

In the ONT they are killer for smallmouth, they cant resist and its like crack to them. When everyone else if having trouble catching fish throw on a crawfish (especially a soft shell) and its on.

They make some very realistic lures. Im sure they are a lot easier to fool with than a live one

We have a small private pond and when the bass are on beds, they will take nothing artificial. If you drop a live crawfish in there, they will attack it immediately. This is the only experience I have with them.

I've did it in my pond during the summer with small to medium sized crawfish. I hook them somewhere that they will stay good and alive, but stay on the hook good. I'd throw it out and if I didn't get a bite with in 2 minutes I would jerk the hell out of it just like you would a popping cork for specs, but I would use a regular cork. I would absolutely wear the bass out for a couple month time period, then after a while it pretty much shut down. I found that the bigger crawfish didn't work as well unless I'd break the claws off of them.

Used to fish them like this but I would only catch the occasional bass but my main catch was catfish and the occasional goggle eye. (Bayou Liberty - Bayou Sauvage inside the levee system)

However in clear water you might have better luck. In Arkansas this was the preferred bait for small mouth bass in the buffalo river.

I was always told that bass will swallow them too quickly and get severely deep hooked. No throwbacks.

Takes the challenge out though. It defeats the entire point of bass fishing. If I want meat I will go for the white socacrappy

When bass are bedding this is like throwing awesomeness on a hook into the water.

Do it on creeks all the time. Turn over rocks grab a few crawfish. Smallies love em
