My dad always carried a dip net and we did pretty well in muddy ditches around town. Very few were eating size anyway. Softshell was the prize. Could always count on a nice cat or goo with one of them.

That's how they do it in Arkansas on the white river if you are using a spinning rod and not fly fishing.

we used 4 sacs of peelers for mangrove chum once. fishing buddy of mine is a crawfish whole-saler, so no $. worked like a charm

We used to use them fishing in the lake in the summer for Largemouth when the fishing got slow and had good results with them. One of the keys is to keep them moving after you cast as they tend to crawl and get lodged under rocks and debris.

yes... pretty deadly live bait - especially for choupique.

softshell crawfish are devastatingly good live bait

Not much luck w bass but the really small ones are killer chinquapin and white bass bait. Have caught some nice white perch on them too.

I've done this on north la bayous and in the bayou pigeon area in the basin. All this occurred in the. 80s and 90s, don't know if the fishing is good in either place now

We would take a dip net in ditches and fill up a minnow bucket w abunch of really small crawfish 1-3 inches long
