I'm running a small IT business getting 1-2 new clients per month for websites and programming jobs. We're having problems getting paid by lots of clients who don't want to put a check in the mail or be available for us to pick it up. They'd like to give a credit card over the phone. Any recommendations for a small business credit card processor to meet this need? Maybe use it 12 times a year for a combined dollar value of $30,000-$50,000 worth of charges.

I realize some fees are involved but we've had several drag out 30+ days, multiple emails, etc without getting paid just because small/medium business owners don't have a checkbook handy.

Thanks in advance.

We use QuickBooks for our small business. I didn't opt for the cc swipers but people can call in and do it over the phone. Not sure of the details/prices, but it's convenient.

I'm in the same boat. I've been using Paypal, but looking to get a portal. I've just been too lazy to research it.

intuit has a service that has lower fees than paypal but its still high.

I would recommend you do it, but then offer a 1% cash discount or something.

I run an ISO which processes transactions and have lots of experience in ecommerce and web collection payments.

Give me an email to contact you and I can answer all your questions on security to pricing.

..both or all of you...just saw someone else was considering.

I use square.

It's 2.75 with really no fees. If you hand key the number he rate goes up, but that is pretty standard. There is no live tech support. I use it in-store with my business but have heard no complaints about their mobile service. I plan on using it for deliveries and off site sales by years end too.

Everything you swipe before 5 pm is in your account the next morning. I've never had any problems with my deposits.

I've been very impressed and I went into this very skeptical.

I'm interested in a portal with no contract and minimal fees for $80-120k in billings. I've received plenty of flyers just haven't done the research yet.

I use square also and they will negotiate if you're doing more business. I've been quite pleased and most of the food trucks in the DC area use it too.

Square has been one I've heard more often than not.

I've used the PayPal, square, and now a new capital one spark swiper. My preferred way is now the cap1 spark because it goes directly into my business checking account and the fee is 0.1% lower than square and PayPal.

Waveapps is a good cloud accounting software, and it sends nice email invoices that the customer can pay online. Takes about 5-7 days to send to your bank account though.

It's is way cheaper if you do decent volume to do a traditional merchant account thru an ISO like me. You still have a swiper, it's just not a HIGH flat rate thru square.
A 2.75% flat rate sucks when many of those cards should be going thru under 2%...

Stay with square if you do non frequent transactions and total less than $5k/mnth.

If you stay with one of those products and do $5k or more, you are simply throwing revenue out the window.
