I have been in two near death car accidents. No serious injuries but one car hit a pine tree and the other missed a telephone pole before going into a pond.

Fell asleep for a second at the wheel. I guess that's pretty close. As a child I got really, really sick and had to be in ICU for a couple days so that's right there too.

I hit a cement culvert going about 50 mph. Bad arse seat beat stopped me from even getting touched by the air bag. No serious injuries (typical bruising from the seat belt).
ETA: this happened on an old country road on the way to a buddy of mine's house. Funny thing is, I had developed a habit of not wearing my seat belt while driving to his house because it was only a 5-10 minute drive all on country roads. For some reason that day I decided to put it on. Glad I did.

Two:
Got in a car and missed a telephone pole before flying into a fence in college
Burst my splenic artery while in college. All I did was be hungover and throw-up. Be careful doing that.

20 years ago I was going to LSU and had to have back surgery for ruptured disc. Week after surgery my left leg blew up over night and I was rushed back to Methodist in Houston. Developed blood clot in leg, and threw one to my lung. Had to lay in the bed for 10 days. Didn't realize how close I was til years later.

Respiration failure during pre-op after heart surgery. They had to use the same stuff that killed Michael. Jackson to get me to stop fighting so they could insert breathing tube. They used too much and I almost died? Out for 4 days.

Was driving on the interstate, in the left lane, in the rain. I hit a puddle, did a 360 while crossing over the right lane. I ended up facing forward on the shoulder. I remember seeing trees in the rear view mirror as I was spinning. I braced for a collision into the trees, but nothing happened. I was lucky to not flip, as lucky there was no car in the right lane as I crossed over.

It wasn't in a combat zone but I was in the back of a 2 1/2 ton truck. The driver fell asleep and we ran off of a 40' drop off.

Went in for surgery almost a year ago and they realized I had a bad infection, and the surgeon called the EMS and rushed me to the hospital.
Apparently I was septic, had a fever over 105, and heart rate above 200 bpm. Spent the night in ICU.
Next time I saw the surgeon he told me I freaked him the frick out, thought I was about to die in his operating room.
I was glued up on ketamine so I didn't realize how bad it was until days later.

I have had a lot of close calls, but a couple of weeks ago I almost died from pneumonia/bronchitis coupled with some nodules that are in my airways that I didn't know about. One of them is four centimeters. I have made an appointment with a pulmonologist to find out what they are. Luckily someone found me on the floor and took me to the hospital.
