Some players are natural leaders, others arent. But grow into 1 due to being the veteran on the squad.

Well no offense to Hickey, but as a PG he does a pretty shitty job of being the leader. Either a) your best player has to be your leader or b) your PG. LSU's best player was JOB and half the time he pouted about fouls or not getting the ball. One game Hickey will drop 20 with 6 assists, the next game he takes 2 shots and gets 3 assists. No one is consistent and I'm sort of ready for all of Trent's guys to be gone. Not that many of them haven't contributed in big ways, but we need new blood. I'm ready for TQ to be given the position. He sucks shooting, but he does everything else better than Hickey. We need a gritty PG who isn't looking for his shot and is intense.

Quarterman was more of an on-court leader than Hickey which shows it isn't about how much time you've been there.
I just think Hickey is a quiet player on the court. Doesn't get everyone involved in between plays, etc.

Someone laughed at me in the SMU thread when I said Hickey was by far the top reason among players for LSU's underachievement. There's a reason CJJ started Quarterman to start the season; he wants to replace Hickey. Bet it happens with the incoming group.

Hickey can't be the leader if he's in the doghouse every season. Each year of Jones' tenure he has been disciplined one way or another. That's all Quarterman starting at the beginning of the season was about. You saw his play...There's no way Quarterman should have been starting.

Umm no. Sometimes he hustled, absolutely. Sometimes he disappeared completely. You are not a hustler when big games on national TV you hustle then other times you go through the motions. There's a difference between being not selfish and getting others involved. When Hickey wasn't "selfish", half the time he just lazily passed the ball around outside the 3-point line. I don't know how you can possibly say Anthony Hickey is an intense player. That's comical
