I was using a cajun thunder popping cork one time and had a redfish hit it about 3 times.

Wouldn't hit the damn jig right under it but for some reason really wanted the cork.

I have that happen from time to time with reds and trout. I never have a topwater bait rigged when that happens though. Go figure.

I still like the old school bone colored super spook. wont catch many but they will be big. I also replace the treble hooks with a double hook setup or just snip off the hook facing forward. helps in the grass beds

Really? Never caught one on a frog. Makes sense though.

I always had luck with the bone color top dogs with a little red on the mouth.

Honestly man. If its really skinny water sometimes topwater makes too much noise. I would throw something with a blade or a gold spoon.

But if you are gonna throw topwater. I like Bone colored spooks

If anyone is looking for cheap topwaters (Long A Bombers and Spook Jrs), Walmart on Tchoupitoulas has them super cheap in their "on sale" boxes.

Never caught a red on topwater. I've had specks hit a top dog while fishing for reds. I've had the swirl on a buzz bait, but never hooked one. And those times were rare.

Next time I make it out there, I'm trying some suspension lures I picked up. I'm trying to learn how to work hard baits

At lot of times that has happened to me, I'll throw a redhead/white top dog or that old Boone Banana bait in red/white and they'd crush it.

The other times that happens is when you're fishing live bait (minnows, skrimps) and they run the bait to the top and it can't go any further and the fish hits. One time in Empire fishing shallow with minnas they did this.
