probably just me....but

anybody else work in an environment where there are a couple people (very likely female) that insist on flooding your inbox with a constant barrage of "THANKS!" emails after every single inter-department correspondence?

There are like TEN of us, at most, in this office, we all sit within 15 feet of each other, for frick's sake...I CAN SEE YOU sitting right there. Why in the frick do you feel the uncontrollable urge to respond to every damn email with a "Thanks!!" ??? I spend as much time deleting these damn things as I do actually reading emails

....getting off my soapbox

it's just an email. read it, delete it and move on. It's no big deal. If that is all that bugs you working in the office you have it too easy

As an auditor I like getting those because it indicates acknowledgment of receipt of an email, which can cover your arse when you start getting questions or if people deny having received something. But in an office of only a few people that seems like it would get annoying.

Same here. It really pisses me off when they call or e-mail to ask me a simple question with a yes or no answer. Seriously bitch?

Almost as bad as the announcement that is copied to the entire workforce that turns into a back and forth between 2 people on a tangential topic.

It is very frustrating when you get 400+ emails in a 24hr period.

Also message that say message received. Response with a thanks. 5 minutes later a response to the original email with a thanks. Dammit just answer the question and no need for thanks.

You get 400+ emails in a day? That would mean you basically spend all day reading/responding to emails.

ETA: Or are most of these just email's you don't have to bother with at all?

Exactly. This is just documenting receipt, which is usually beneficial for the receiver if the sender fails to do what was asked.

The dozens of seconds you have spent deleting these isn't worth being upset over.

Also, if you are sitting right next to them, it would probably be more beneficial to tell them about your issue with thanks emails, instead of the OT.

These have been banned in our office. No CCing the world anymore. Same for birthdays and stupid "Congrats" emails.

Many are just an FYI about topics. About 30% require a response.

I will clear my inbox before I leave for the evening and have 60+ emails before I go to bed. Most of my business is international and on different time zones.

Well it could be worse. They could just be arse holes and never tell you thanks for anything. Then you'd be hot over that too

It's the social media curse. I've never seen more adults scared to talk or have a real conversation with other adults.
