He is 57-24 in six seasons in Lincoln and has led the Huskers to five straight AP top 25 finishes, albeit at #14, #20, #24, #25, and #25.

The Big 10 is a weak conference, generally. Michigan is still floundering, Ohio State should be good as well as Wisconsin; Michigan State loses a lot off of their vaunted defense.

Is this the year he can get it done in Lincoln?

They've had some bad losses the past few years:
2013 - L v. UCLA 41-21
2013 - L v. Iowa 38-17
2012 - L at Ohio State 63-38
2011 - L at Wisconsin 48-17
2011 - L at Michigan 45-17

Not really a bad loss. UCLA is a really good team.

arse whippings for sure, but they are still to good teams.

LSU got whipped by Alabama 38-17, 21-0, etc. but still look to be okay in the future.

Nebraska is the type of program where they will always be good, but will have that one good upper class and be great every 4 or 5 years.

That's what they are now

I don't think so, I think he has reached his ceiling. Still don't get the contract extension.

When he nearly had a dismal Wyoming team beat them in their home opener, is when I realized this guy wasn't taking Nebraska anywhere...Which is fine by me

I don't necessarily see this for Nebraska anymore. Will they be competitive? Yes. But, ever since they joined the B1g they've been pretty middle of the road. Second, recruiting kids to Lincoln isn't as easy as it once was.

Just watching Nebraska play against Georgia the past couple of years shows me what type of team they are. They are still good and competitive. They'd be a 7-5, 8-4 SEC team.

ETA: It doesn't help that they've had a quarterback in recent years that makes Jordan Jefferson look like Joe Montana. Martinez can freaking run like none other, but I'll be damned if that kid could hit the broadside of a barn. He shot put's the football.

Pelini is just like Bielema was at Wisconsin. He'll beat up on the lower tier of the conference but will never be able to out-coach teams with more talent.

Taylor Martinez throws ugly, but has definitely had better games passing the ball than Jefferson ever wished he could have. He's inconsistent for sure, but TMart can light up the score board when he's on.

i think this deserves a topic on its own. Let's hear from the Brady hoke jock sniffers who swore up and down he'd return meatchicken to prominence and he was ten times the coach of les miles. He had that great first year, but has gotten worse each year. Dare I say he won with rich rod's recruits?!?! Nah, people have already established hoke is some coaching savant, so michigan's troubles won't fall at his feet like it should. Everyone will just proclaim he's on the right track and soooo close to becoming a national player until they shite can him and everyone immediately claims him as the scapegoat. Rinse, repeat.

didn't Nebraska just move to the new Big Ten West Division?

maybe i misread that somewhere. But if they did I guess it couldn't hurt them as they enter another year in the conference.

here's their schedule:

Florida Atlantic
McNeese State
@ Fresno State
Miami-FL
Illinois
@ Michigan State
-open-
@ Northwestern
Rutgers
Purdue
-open-
@ Wisconsin
Minnesota
@ Iowa

Fair assessment. Rich Rod is a much better coach than Hoke IMO

After they lose to Fresno, the wolves will really start to howl in Lincoln.

They miss Michigan,tOSU & PSU in one season? damn. I could see people calling for Pelini's head if he doesn't win ten games this season.

If he loses more than three games with that schedule he should be fired. That is a very favorable schedule.

yeah, but I think its because of the new realignment in the conference.

the Fresno State and Miami games will be real pivotal.

i mean cause you have to go on the road to play Fresno after basically playing 2 exhibition games.

Miami should be alright again this year I guess.
