Staying 3 days with my wife in Austin at a resort. Plan on doing some sight seeing in Austin, Fredericksburg and the countryside. Any recs for places to see, restaurants etc?
TIA,

Don't go see the zoo. As my husband described it, it's 4 cages and a bunny.

Natural Bridge Caverns are out by San Antonio, but it isn't too far a drive if you want to see them.

There's a museum of Texas History which is interesting and the state capitol building is worth a look.

We went to a really nice restaurant downtown and I cannot remember the name. I'll see if I can get it from my son.

ETA: I second watching the bats!

Also, Round Rock (suburb to the north) has a minor league baseball team, the Round Rock Express. Check if they are in town if you want to see a game.

As a poster previously mentioned, Barley Swine is really good.

-Lambert's, Franklin, Salt Lick (Driftwood, Tx) for bbq.
-Firefly Pie (food truck)

Do a search on the FDB. There's at least 2 threads a week about Austin.

better make a reservation a head of time.

In Fredricksburg, the one winery you have to stop at is Becker Vineyards. I am pretty sure it is the largest one of all the vineyards there (I was married there so I may be a little biased).

Go to Enchanted Rock and climb around inside the caves on top and down the back side.

Becker vineyards is good if you like red wine, they have some good stuff. I like the Claret and another blend they (used to/) make called Prairie Rotie. If you like white wines, I suggest you go to Fredericksburg winery in town or go to sisterdale.

If you want touristy bbq, stick around austin. If you want the real stuff (without having to wait in line at Franklin's), head to Lockhart or Luling.

If you want a good steak, Austin Land and Cattle near the capital is pretty good. That's not Texas land and cattle, which is a mediocre at best chain restaurant.

Go to Enchanted Rock, then drive through Fredericksburg and don't stop, go to Luckenbach to say you've been. Figure your own way back to Austin stopping at a winery.
