A shout out to Darla Hood for her post on a place called The Little Big Cup, in Arnaudville, La.
I was looking for a place to take the wife for our anniversary. (Hard to believe she's put up with me for 15 yrs, 20 all together)
We've done all the fine dinning you can think of, and I was looking for something different because when it comes down to it, we're both just a couple simple country folks.
We made the hour long trip to the sleepy little cajun village, and arrived to the most unassuming place you can imagine. The coffee shop is called The Little Big Cup, and the newly expanded restaurant adjacent to it is named The Bayou Warehouse.
A place time has forgotten, but not tradition. When you walk through the doors you know you're in for a treat. The antique lighting captures every detail of the picturesque hardwood floors, and ceiling. The quaint sights, the muffled sounds, & the humble smell takes you back to a much more simpler time.
We were greeted by the owner and he told me that he reserved the entire (lower) back deck for just us! Since it was a Saturday evening they had their buffet out, but this is not your typical pigs at the trough boofay! It's hard to find adjectives to describe a buffet, but I can easily use elegant, charming, even delightful.
The food was some of the best I've had in a while. So simple, so good and so much of it! Every thing I tried was an A+.
A very nice evening for the two of us as we sat out on the deck overlooking the intersection of Bayou Teche/Fuselier and enjoyed the small conversations about being there and together for so long.
Another great anniversary dinner to remember!

I've been back twice since I posted about it the first time. Once with son's gf, another time with 17 folks from all over the US, after taking them to Church Point for a chicken chase.

yes. if you like the big cup, you'll love the steamboat. I put it just a bit above the cup.
it's an old warehouse (from the 1800's) that they've converted into a restaurant. the atmosphere is second to none. it's also on the bayou with a deck outside. you'll love it. the food's about the same in quality but the steamboat has better beverages if you know what I mean.

I noticed the guest book was full of people from all over.

Very nice. Might take a drive there myself. Looks quaint and fun. I love going into a restaurant and feeling like you've gone back in time somehow. This looks like that sort of place.

That place looks legit!
We're all about going to places off the beaten path.

you'll love it. it's the most comfortable restaurant that I've ever been to.
there is also a little cottage that you can rent on the side of the parking lot along the bayou.
sometime, my wife and I will rent the cottage for a night and just get wasted at the steamboat and walk "home". fun times I tell you.
btw...the cottages are as old as the restaurant.

Good to know...
Maybe next years anniversary dinner will be a weekend event

Looks like a nice restaurant. Little concerned about a seafood buffet. I think seafood really needs to be cooked to order.
Guess they are really selling the atmosphere there. I find it hard to believe a seafood restaurant in LA selling only tilapia and catfish.
Where is this place?

The blacked drum topped with crawfish was my favorite.
I didn't try the tilapia.
The fish were done in small batches, so it wasn't just sitting there getting cold.
It's across the street from the one grocery store in 'downtown' Arnaudville
Very small town so it's easy to find

Looks a quaint little joint.
I would have needed to marry someone different to enjoy it. Regardless of what it is, no chance I could ever get her to go to a fried seafood buffet.
I like the environment tho.

I overlooked the drum. That does sound good.
Ok. That's good, as long as it's not sitting in one of those vats, drowning in it's own grease bath.
I'll show my South LA ignorance. Where is Arnaudville?
