Anyone familiar with or have one? There was an old guy that I used to work with that had one that would not only record, but would transcribe what's recorded to a word doc, or take what he wrote and do the same.

I'm getting ready to start school again after 10 years of being out and was thinking about picking one up, just didn't know which kind

Pen Recorder

If you were back in the 80s, you would not be able to log on to Amazon and buy one of these

True. But being 2014 and not knowing which kinds are worth it, I still can't...

I have a Livescribe I used throughout school and occasionally now doing engineering sketches. The biggest negative is that some heavy writers record the scratching noise from actually writing. The positives are endless because when studying or reviewing, you can replay the sound recorded at any point of yournotes. If a professor was talking quickly, i would draw a star and could go back to what they said. Also a bonus is if you get the addon transcription software, you can put you legible hand written notes into a Word doc... which means a searchable document.

Other negatives is that it uses special paper binders so you have to buy their paper. Also, I ran across some prefossors that eould not allow recording. And of course, using a pen has its own issues if you make mistakes

How would they know? Honor system? Seems strange to have such a policy these days. Probably in case they say something stupid or inaccurate, their colleagues have no evidence. Or at least it seems that might be a worry.
