Nuclear engineering at LSU?

I am a student currently about to enroll at LSU and couldn't be more excited for this opportunity! I have been looking at things to major in, and I'm really leaning towards mechanical engineering because I like physics and math a lot better than any other subject. However in looking at the engineering college website, it says that in addition to your mechanical engineering degree, you may also get a nuclear power engineering minor. Nuclear engineering seems interesting so I'm intrigued. Does anyone know what this is and if it's worth anything? Is anyone here a nuclear engineer/LSU grad?

Knew someone who went into that field. He makes good money at Waterford 3 Nuclear power plant.

Really good to do if you're going in the navy.
Otherwise, you're going to be miserable throughout college and probably make a shitpile of money when you get out.

This is generally true of any engineering field.

You will hate your college experience more than you can imagine.
But assuming you do graduate with a 2.0 or above you'll be stacking cash like a damn fool

Depends on where you go after college, nuclear engineers don't really make that much and even the same as other engineers in nuclear plants and put in shite tons of overtime for outages and such with the rest of us. The PETEs on here really make the most bang for the buck especially if you don't go for masters or higher.
If you wanted to really go for NukeE, look at Florida or A&M in the SEC and even Tennessee with their Oak Ridge Partnership. Florida and A&M have their own reactors though.

If you are going to go into engineering go into petroleum engineering.

I am just assuming here, but I feel that if you want to be a nuclear engineer, you should go to a school that has a defined program. I don't see people recruiting nuclear engineers from a school that only has it as a minor option.
If you just want to take the extra classes to put the minor on your resume, or because you are interested in the subject, or you are considering grad school, by all means do so.

Study physics, do the medical physics grad school option. Calibrate the radiation therapy machines. It's nuclear physics...if you're really good they'll hire you for the same job you're seeking. Perfect fall back plan.
I did a second discipline in nuclear science with a physics degree and they did not offer what they do now.
