quote:

“I think a Darren Sproles only comes around once in your lifetime, in my career and in everybody’s career,” Brees said in Orlando at the NFL Players Association player rep meetings, via Fox Sports’ Mike Garafolo. “There may be another one 15, 20 years from now. But there’s not many guys like Darren Sproles. He’s a special player, he’s a special person, he’s a special teammate.”

quote:

“It’s tough, because a lot of those guys (who’ve been let go) I’ve played with for eight years,” Brees said to Garafalo. “Eight years. Which is rare. I’d say that’s very rare in this day and age, to have that amount of time with a group of guys. You become very connected during that time, so it’s always hard when you get to this point.”

quote:

Nonetheless, Brees believes Graham will be back with the Saints. Eventually.

"Since I've been through it just two short years ago, you just know it's part of the process. You can't take any of that personal," said Brees, who came to an agreement with the Saints in July 2012 after the team tagged him five months earlier. "Listen, I know Jimmy will be ready to play, whether that means he's coming in tomorrow, April 21 or Aug. 21, I know Jimmy Graham will be ready to play and he'll be a big part of our offense and a big part of our team for a long time. I'm very confident that will work out."

If he is talking strictly on talent then drew is high.

A source told FOX Sports recently Graham is prepared to sit out part of the spring, if not all, while his contract situation plays out. It's unclear whether Graham would miss part or all of training camp.

If you continue reading, he's not talking strictly talent.

When he starts getting fined he'll show up. If he doesn't, there's no way he is missing a game check at approximately 500k per.

Well he wasn't.

Also, doesn't he have the most yards ever in a single season?

I understand JG threatening to sit...so I hope he understands if the Saints use a pick on a top TE prospect as well.

Not saying a true replacement for JG, but a talented player who you can "get by" using for the short term with upside and growth potential

Saints had no such recourse with Brees, but a TE is a different matter. At worst, you consider a top TE pick who (once JG signs and reports) can ultimately pair in 2 TE sets.

More 2 TE looks and a new FB would mesh well with a re-emphasized rushing attack.

We could just give Ben Watson all the snaps and sign another tight end then trade jimmy for some cheaper options. He's not irreplaceable.

Not really. Haven't been that many guys like Sproles, who've been as good as him during Brees' NFL career. He's gonna be top 20 all-time in All-purpose yards after this year.

I don't think we signed Watson to a 3 year deal on accident. I think he's the insurance should Graham hold out this year, and if we leave him on the tag and tag him next year also.

I think we only go TE if he's clear BPA. Other things are more pressing.

What else can he say; he's not bashing the team for the realignment of players due to the cap. If he had, he'd look like a complete jackass...considering his salary is causing a lot, not all, of the squeeze against the cap limit.

Wait until next year when Brees gets an extension and another $25M in signing bonus just so we can sign the rookie contracts.

"If he is talking strictly on talent then drew is high."

He's 5'6 with like 15,000 all-purpose yards in his career. Name some others.
