deadspin

quote:

Though Tom Crean said last night that "we would have loved to be able to keep playing," and presumably another couple weeks of games and practices could help an underwhelming team get better, Indiana declined an invitation to the CBI tournament. While teams in the CBI have to pay to participate, AD Fred Glass said money wasn't the issue:

"Finances wouldn't be an issue if we thought it made sense," Glass told The Star. "But we're Indiana. We don't play in the CBI."

You also don't play in the NCAA Tournament... or the NIT, asshat.

I don't see a problem. A program like Indiana has no business playing in a shitty new postseason tournament.

So I guess it's better to play nothing at all.

I'd think those players could use a couple of extra weeks of practice and game time.

Other than playing a couple meaningless games, what is he accomplishing?

He's right. Indiana is a big basketball name. You're accomplishing nothing. If he took a team vote from his kids and they don't want to play, then so be it.

I agree with Creen here.

A couple of extra weeks of practice and competition for a team that obviously needs it.

Team will be different next year anyway, a couple extra weeks of practice followed by months of inactivity doesn't help anything

Actually, Crean wanted to play. It was the AD that basically told the CBI to shove their invite up their arse, minus lube.

It's totally reasonable to decline the CBI if you're Indiana.

It's a dick move to trash the entity that invited you to play.

I see no problem here.

There is no logical reason for Indiana to play in the CBI. Was it a douchy way to say it? Yes. But still.
