Not bad considering probably by the end of this contract well be letting him go to sign Vaccaro to his big deal.

Where do you get only $1.3m more. It goes from $3.5m to $10.3m

Loomis is going to have his hands full for the next few years but if we cut him after the 4th year, things will work out.

Well he is definitely here for 3 years, and the implications for each year after that if we release him are:

2017- $6.1m saved with $4.4m dead money
2018- $8.8m saved with $2.2m dead money
2019- $9m saved with no dead money(signing bonuses are only spread among the first 5 years)

So really it's a great 3 year deal with options to get out anytime after that.

was referring to the average of 9mil/yr of the contract.

9mil looks exponentially smaller than 10.3mil for some odd reason

Ok gotcha. Yeah anytime you see something go into the $10m+ range it starts looking mighty large.

This is a really good give and take contract. The player get's what he wanted the first 3 years, the signing bonus is really low so when it does come time to decide keep/cut the dead money is really low, and it has flexibility as we can restructure him in either of the next two years if we need the money and the dead money still wouldn't be too great.

And each year 4-6 could also been an extension point.

Probably more like 4 years. Eating 4 mill to save 6 isn't great and would probably only happen if he's severely underperforming.

Agreed but we did it with Harper and Moore and they were still decent. Moore saved $2.5m but has $2.5m dead money for instance.

So the option is there if needed.

This looks tremendous. We are locked into him for him 3 prime years, but after that we can let him go without much cost. Plus, none of his cap numbers are out of control. It never gets above $10.9mil. Definitely a manageable number for a guy of his caliber. Great work by Loomis.

Exactly. Take another look at the cap, our cap situation, and needs at that point.

3.5 Mil hit this year ?

And before everyone freaks out the Saints FO is actually "aware" of the 10.3 in 2015 and have figured out how to pay it before JByrd ever put pen to paper.

Also much like Brees he will soon be passed by a higher priced player at his position.

All in all this looks really good going forward

Hopefully he can be an All-Pro long after his first 3 years but if not then we can cut him. I hope we don't have to though

Cut him in 3 years? Why dont the Saints just restructure if he's playing at that level

Like they'd understand it.

Correction, they'd misrepresent it to tear down the Saints.
We're either killing ourselves in the future or breaking the rules.

How are we even posting on this message board? Our FEMA trailers don't get internet service.
