i searched, but not much on the topic (probably due to limited timeframe of search feature).

I'm trying to decide if this is a habit worth forming. I've bought/refilled them on and off for the past 8 years or so, but recently three new shops opened up within easy walks of my various temporary and permanent dwelling places. so may become a ritual.

I've always just bought them for novelty's sake, but I'm beginning to see the value as good shops open up with beers you can't get in bottles.

i got a true 64+oz pour of 11.5% 2xIPA today (I've forgotten the name because I've sort of polished off the growler--bye bye 2-day sobriety coin) for $12.

It made 5 pint glasses (w/ head) and was really freaking good. I used to not really see the value in growlers, but this would've been $50+ worth of [this] beer at the pub. (10-12 oz snifters at $5-6 ea.)

not sure what my question is, but growl away.

If you can polish off the growler with in a day or 2 its a good deal. But I don't think anybody on here drinks that much in a day.

At the prices you suggested, absolutely. I'd fill a lot of growlers at $12/pour. Think of it like standard beer. At 12 oz. a beer, that's 5 1/3 beers for about 13 bucks. Depending upon the beer, and if I'm drinking it in one sitting or can't get it elsewhere, yes please. A growler of something like Abita Amber, though, and I'm saying forget that.

Growlers are very popular in the North, but then again so are micro breweries. Another thing I don't see down here as much is cask ale.

Technically you are correct. He's currently in timeout.

I've held on to a growler for a week before opening because unexpected plans came up. I wasn't expecting it to be good when I finally did but it tasted fresh as ever.

I always have an empty growler in the trunk just in case

Back on point. I have 2 growlers. One is a liter and one is a 2 liter. I can fill the liter for 6-9 bucks depending on the beer. The larger one is a better deal but not the best for one person.

It's not cheap, but a bit cheaper than a bar. I'm sure as heck not putting crap in it though and not beers like Sweetwater, Goose Island, Bells, Lagunitas, etc. either.

Unless I'm misreading, it would be half of that. Five to six 12 oz. snifters would constitute a growler, not 10. Still absolutely a better deal to buy the growler, but it's not 1/4 the price, closer to 1/2.

I love my stainless steel growler. If baton rouge didnt suck, i would use it alot more. When i go home to nj and visit breweries i use my growler a ton.

I dont really do growlers all that often unless you have no practical option as the brewery doesnt bottle/can.

Using your example of 64oz for $12 or roughly $2.25 for every 12oz pour. You can buy a six pack of 2xIPA for $11 locally which is $1.83 for a 12oz pour. So not only do you get a better value from buying the six pack but you also get the flexibility of drinking on your own schedule.

Growlers are a cool novelty, but like I said they usually only pay off when the product isnt available in cans/bottles.

Must be nice

Edit: I use my growler a bunch. But it's mainly at the one brewery I have near by my house. If they didn't offer so many small batch one offs I won't use it nearly as much.

I don't use my growler much because after opening, you need to finish that growler quick. I usually don't like to feel obligated to one beer, but nothing beats a freshly filled growler from the brewery.

I see you post your growler fills all the time on CCB's growler Tuesday?

Growler Tuesday is almost always a one off beer that wont be canned or available by the glass at CCB. The only way you get to try the beer is to buy a growler. They do not announce in advance what is being tapped. Sometimes the beer is amazing and other times it sucks. Theres only one way to find out, get in line and buy a growler and 20 minutes later when the keg kicks there will be no more. CCB looks at the feedback on Untappd and BA and uses it for product development. In effect, we're all guinea pigs that are willing to pay to be experimented with.

Nola is a little pricey on their fills, as is Avenue.

Which one is using the clear glass growlers instead of the brown glass? I'm dumbfounded by that choice.

It's still cheaper than buying 4 pints at any bar (at least at NOLA). I try not to buy growlers from A Pub because I hate to inconvenience them. Not sure what they are charging these days.

Neither. A Pub normally has nice Stone flip top growlers.

It's not Nola. Their's is brown. If I'm remembering correctly, it's $16 for a regular fill, and $18 for a specialty fill. I believe that's the refill price, not a new growler and fill, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.
