You think a bunch of jokers who were lining up to blow a 5'7'' dictator are going to have the guts to eat crow?

“In the past weeks, customers have flocked to our showrooms to invest the weakening ruble into what I would call a real asset, a Rolls-Royce motorcar,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce in an interview with BNN. He says Russia was an “outstanding” market for his brand in 2014.

That said; buying a Rolls-Royce as an investment is tough to wrap your head around. Luxury cars in particular are known for their huge depreciation the moment they are driven off the lot. A sales person from a Toronto Rolls-Royce showroom says a “well equipped” 2015 Wraith sells for $465,000 before taxes. A search on autotrader.com brings up the same 2015 model for $359,000.

“I think in terms of Russia, you have a kind of machismo. You have Putin going around without a shirt. It’s a show of ‘I’m successful and I’m strong.’ I think luxury cars present that images better than a few washing machines do,” said Wheaton.

Russians confident a new Rolls Royce will hold value better than the ruble

The ruble and Russian economy are so shitty that the wealthy are "investing" in luxury cars.

Moody’s downgraded Russia’s sovereign debt rating to junk status, citing the conflict in Ukraine, low oil prices and the weakened ruble...

Moody’s believes “the government’s financial strength will diminish materially as a result of fiscal pressures and the continued erosion of” Russia’s foreign exchange reserves due to capital outflows and restricted access to international capital markets...

Economic data published Wednesday showed Russia’s economy moving further toward recession under the weight of Western sanctions and a sharp decline in the price for oil, its main source of hard currency.

The ruble is in the dumpster.

Putin ONLY has grandstanding as militaristic jingoist.
Notice that the talks have begun in the Ukraine.

Putin has to bow to Obama before Putin's economy is crushed.

Putin is keeping the cost of vodka affordable. Everything else is going through the roof.

Last month, Russia’s president greeted U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry with conspicuous warmth at a newly built palace in Sochi for their first meeting since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis. They talked about eastern Ukraine’s future not as a piece of Russia, nor as a Kremlin-backed breakaway republic, but under the rule of Kiev. Summoning his friendliest smile, the Russian president proclaimed at his annual spring press conference that his country “has no enemies.” And as if on cue, the Russian-backed leaders of Ukraine’s breakaway regions announced that the idea of Novorossiya—a tsarist-era term describing a swath of southern Ukraine that Putin used to hint belonged back under Moscow’s control—is officially dead.

“The Kremlin has effectively admitted defeat, no matter how it tries to spin it,” wrote Andrei Kolesnikov, the former doyen of the Kremlin press pool who is now at the Carnegie Moscow Center. “Moscow seems to have come to the realization that Ukraine has been lost.”

The Kremlin is far from admitting defeat. Over the last few days the fighting has increased and that is put Ukraine's IMF loan in jeopardy. If Ukraine doesn't get that loan then it will default and Russia has already said it will take tough measures if Ukraine defaults. Russia is not admittign defeat just changing tactics.

This. Russia's economy is in the shitter largely due to the price of oil and gas being so far below what they need it to be. My belief is that Putin sees his best option to be taking over the pipelines that ~25% the natural gas used by many European countries. Take those over, raise the rates, profit. This also feeds into his desire to "get the band back together" (ie: former USSR states). At the very least he'll use this his aggression into Ukraine as some negotiation tactic on international trade.

The only losing scenario for Putin on this is if the Ukraine can keep him at bay until the Russian economy collapses completely (which looks to be within the next year or two at this rate, unless oil spikes again).

The same president who shits on the Constitution that I , and millions of other veterans, swore an oath to? The same president who injects racism into everything? Who tries at every opportunity to ram gun control down our throats but enjoys the 24 hr protection for himself and his family by a phalanx of armed guards paid for by MY tax dollars? Who instructs his cocksucking buddies at the IRS to target political opponents? Buys votes with illegal alien community with MY tax dollars? Who is responsible for my healthcare premiums going up 22% in the past 24 months while lying his arse off that we'd all see a $2500 annual DECREASE? The same president who lives like a king (with his black as spades pig of a wife) on MY tax money while attacking the industry (oil and gas) I support my family with? Is this the same guy you expect me to throw my support behind because "he's the U.S. President"? You seriously might wanna consider entering rehab and lay off the drugs. Obama is a pussy and a wimpy cocksucker who hides behind Secret Service. He exhibits ZERO manly characteristics in which I could list as admirable. Go sell your bullshite somewhere else. We're not buying here

Step1: Keep ramping up the sanctions on Russia until they stop supporting the rebels and return Crimea
Step2: Sign a US natural gas and coal export deal with the EU and Ukraine
Step3: Work with the former Warsaw Pact members of NATO to resupply and train the Ukrainian forces

What do you think Obama could have done to prevent this?

Red lines have always worked well in the past.

The perplexing question isn't what should obama do after the fact but rather what should obama have done prior to Russian troops moving into the Ukraine. Showing Putin we have no resolve to honor our commitments to eastern european nations was probably, in hindsight, a mistake.

1. Agree but they are keeping the Crimea they need to port.

2. Bigger NG container ships are being built just for this reason and if the American gas market can take advantage of the EU demand would be a homerun for the US.

3. Already happening.
