First off, I don't agree with Putin or have hero worship of him or what ever the folks with the tingly feeling up their leg with Barry want to accuse people of.

That said, I gotta take my hat off to the man. He is working in his and and his country's interest and DGAF about what the "world" thinks because he knows they may bitch but without true leadership the "world" is just going to watch him treat them like his bitch.

He knows 'ol Barry doesn't have the stones to stand up to him, China DGAF, and the rest of the world combined does't have the ability without the US to do anything. So Putin will do what he wants how he wants.

The truly brilliant part is, we can't get out of Afghanistan unless we keep Putin happy. All "roads" out of Afghanistan lead through Russia. So while ol' Barry might want to threaten this that or the other between Barry not having the stones to do anything, and our strategic need to continue to use our Khazikstan bases to get out of Afghanistan Putin can do whatever he wants.

Game. Set. Match. Putin.

1. i think ukraine has somethings putin wants, but i think this is mostly a test or a diversion for something else

2. i think this is a test of western europe much more than a test of the USA/Obama

3. China's involvement, or lack thereof, will be telling

It's funny how a power struggle in Ukraine, or whatever you want to call it, gives politards on here boners.

How about you clowns actually offer what up the US should be doing instead of sucking Putin's dick while shitting on your President.

What do you think Obama could have done to prevent this? I keep hearing people say that Obama should have been tougher, but how would this toughness have manifested itself in a way that Putin wouldn't have invaded Ukraine?

Yes.

My feeling is if Putin feels he can bully Europe on Ukraine then he will try to bully Europe on gas pricing. Isn't Ukraine a major pipeline for Russian gas going through to Europe? I think it was a kerfuffle over pipelines that began the woman PM of Ukraine's end right? I'm going on shaky memory here, but if Putin can bully his way into control of those pipelines then he can raise prices which will hurt the EU while enriching himself, his friends, and Russia.

How has he ever worked in the interest of Russia? Have you not noticed the sorry state of affairs there? The jailing and murder of dissidents, the rampant corruption....it's a kleptocracy. He acts only in his and the oligarchs best interest.

And in regard to Ukraine...he thought he had purchased the prev government only to have that plan explode in his face...now he's in a precarious position. Additionally the ethnic Russians are pretty clear they don't want Russian rule.

Missiles in Poland may have helped.

My question was about Ukraine, not Syria. Stay focused. How could Obama have prevented an invasion of Ukraine?

Really? Russia would seriously be threatened that we might fire on them? Not even Cheney would be dumb enough to fire a missile on Russia over this shite.

As with any international conflict, US should stay out of it until we are directly threatened with force. It's not our job to protect the Ukraine or to tell Putin to take his toys and go home. Putin is the big bully on his block, but when it comes to the city everyone knows US runs shite. Just because Putin is giving Ukraine a wedgie doesn't mean we should be flocking to message boards talking about how powerful Putin is and how weak we are.

The only reason the majority of you even care bc it's just another manufactured talking point against your nemesis.

Ukraine didn't happen in a vacuum. Although Bush's weak response to Russia's invasion of Georgia probably played a bigger role.

Well, the key word was MAY. Giving up the missile defense in Poland sent a message to Putin that we DGAF about Eastern Europe and that he can basically do what the hell he wants.
