So here’s a grand plan:

Trade Tony Romo to the Houston Texans for the first pick in the draft. Use that pick to draft, yes, Johnny Football.

Stop it right now with your dog-cussing. You can’t bully me. But who sez Houston would do that deal? Well, the Texans are a ready-to-win club except for ... Boy, they need a veteran quarterback who can play. Tony can play. Don’t give me any back talk on that. Tony can play.
If the Texans want more in the deal, the Cowboys can throw in their second-round pick. Whatever it takes, Johnny replaces Tony immediately.

The word from the Scouting Combine was that Jerry and Johnny Football became a friendly duo in Indy, and had one-on-one meetings that went beyond the official interview session the Cowboys had with Johnny as a team.

Sure, Jerry is interested in Manziel, even as he publicly denies any chance of obtaining Johnny through the draft. Why wouldn’t he be interested? Jerry loves show biz. And Johnny is a show-biz QB who will put even more butts in Arlington seats.

no, that would be idiotic for the Cowboys

There's no guarantee that JFF can play at the NFL level let alone the play like a top 10 NFL QB

The Texans are getting rid of the pick-6 prince, why would they trade for the pick-6 king?

The cowboys are in a terrible cap situation. Its actually a difficult decision. But it will never happen.

That's a horrible idea if you're a cowboys fan.
That's a great idea if you're not a cowboys fan.

Romo's contract:
2014 salary 13,500,000
signing bonus 5,000,000
misc bonuses 3,273,000
cap hit 21,773,000
dead money 41,681,000

2015 17,000,000 5,000,000 3,273,000 25,273,000 19,908,000

2016 8,500,000 5,000,000 1,635,000 15,135,000 11,635,000

2017 14,000,000 5,000,000 - 19,000,000 5,000,000

Not just no but hell frick no

why make that trade when the bets part of the new CBA is the discounted rookie deals? The Texans have to make room for the mega-WATT (see what i did there?) signing that is coming very soon

I think the question is asked if you were in the Cowboys' shoes, not the Texans.

The Texans would love that trade.

The Cowboys, not so much.

ETA: didn't know Romo was getting that much money, dear god.

If I were the Texans, I'd take my chances and pick Manziel. Not just the contract but Romo is going on his 9th season as Dallas starter and he's only won one playoff game. I get that the Cowboys are dysfunctional and that doesn't help, but it's still a black mark. I just don't trust him.

If im the Cowboys, Id consider it.

Look, you will not win anything next year with the current roster after cap casualties. You can dump a ton of salary and take a massive risk on JFF but you free up a truckload of cap space to make the roster more manageable.

Cowboys would be pushed to over 20 million OVER the cap for 2014 while getting to a projected 20 million free for 2015 (according to Over the Cap). But then you have to factor in JFF's contract which is the #1 pick. So the Cowboys could basically NEVER get under this year's salary cap and who knows how much space they'd have next year.
