Just started lecture 1. Figured this would be a good lead-in to the other class, but I didn't want to clutter the other thread w/ this stuff.

If anyone else is interested, here's the link:

There are weekly python programming assignments, so I figure we can collaborate on the assignments.

Either YOU can do it, or you can't.

And if you can't, why are you wasting your time with a course you are doing by choice?

Want to have a bullshite conversational talking point about what "you" can do?

I mean there is nothing wrong with asking for help...but for something like this where you walk into it with a general "collaborative" call instead of a round table where specific questions are asked...

Didn't watch the lecture? The class is designed to collaborate on the weekly problems. And you're assuming both concepts are mutually exclusive. They're not. This can be used to both collaborate and ask general questions that more advanced posters could help with.

Which leads me to ask a general question, why post without even knowing the context?

I don't need to.

(which is to say, I haven't yet)

A class is inherently a corroborative effort.

Watching a video isn't, hence the difference of expectations between this and what the instructor said to a CLASS.

I mean, your sophistry aside, the fact that you started this thread without any questions AFTER watching the video but still asking for "help" is telling enough. Or are you openly admitting that you didn't even understand the material to be capable of asking an intelligent question about it.

Although I'd admit that part of the statements are based on assumptions of your character after your actions independent of this on the MSB.

Eh, just taking inferences into poster past history.

And being drunk

Specifics aside, it's the starting of the thread without actually saying anything personally that prompted my response. Posting the link and backdoor asking for others thoughts while providing none. Can't even do a straight up asking for thoughts to it.

Just a passive "collaborative" effort.

Not mad so much as stepped on multiple pet peeves

I really don't know what all this is about. OP is sharing resources to help people learn programming because a lot of interest in it was shown by several posters last week.

Do you feel better after rambling? I didn't add anything to the op for two reasons. First, I just started lecture one. And second, I'm not going to add a bunch of nonsense if no one else is interested in working through the class.

From my perspective, does the money board really need three programming threads? Doc's thread was specifically about what he should study if he wanted to bring value in finance through programming. I think having a study thread for the board to collaborate on in learning programming is acceptable, but we don't need to clutter the MT with programming threads.

Outside of learning Python, what is your goal with this Intro to computer science class? Are you getting a job out of it? Are you building algorithms to buy and sell stock?

There's no other place for it. And if there is no demand for these types of threads, then the forum will sort itself out.

Nah, still stand by what I said.

Which wasn't rambling even in a drunken state, but nice try.

I actually could go on with a couple of gems you just posted....but as I am alone in that boat, I'll let it pass.

I like the idea myself, didn't know about some of the available options without this board. With that said, I don't have much time, but love having resources posted.

Should be 3-4 hours a week. Although, another poster said it becomes more of a time drain as you get further into the class. We'll see.

I agree. Apart from some erroneous information posted (ah, hem... ) these recent programming threads have been gold.
