this guy was pronounced dead, put in a body bag, and brought to the funeral home where he started kicking around just as the autopsy was about to begin...

I would have had a damn heart attack right there...

Kicking your way out of a body bag on the autopsy table. Now there is a story to tell your grandkids.

I have heard of it, but always thought of it as kind of an urban legend....

gotta wonder how many people through history have been buried and then woke up in the coffin under ground...

Quite a few. Especially back before the 1800's people who went into a coma were simply assumed to be dead. There have been many cases of really old graves excavated with the inside of a casket scratched up from someone trying to get out.

When he realizes he is still in Mississippi, he'll climb back in the bag.

Pronounced dead and begin dead are two different things. Thread title is misleading.

Some people may recognize this actor

Did a bunch of TV in the '60s and '70s

Said it happened to him. He went unconscious and woke up on a slab in the morgue.

Yup.

I worked at a hospital that had put stringent protocols in place for a pt being declared dead because in the 80's a woman in a diabetic coma had arrived seemingly dead and an ER nurse just called an MD to ask to declare her dead because she had no pulse and wasn't breathing. She was picked up by a funeral home and woke up later at the funeral home.

Not an urban legend. I worked with nurses that were working there at the time.

It is very rare, but it happens.
