I received my Annual Escrow Disclosure a few days ago and noticed that my Hazard Insurance went up over 150%.

No claims, etc.

Any ideas why?

Does anybody have a suggestion for an inexpensive co. to call and get a quote in the BR area?

Thanks.

Its all law of large numbers cost averages. Your peers group had alot of claims.

Are you with State Farm? Our hurricane deductible went up from around $5000 to $15,000.

Who are you insured with?

I work for a major insurance company and unfortunately everybodys rates are going up. It is the law of large numbers and south LA for you. I know it is not fair and never good for a rate increase, but just look at all reputable carriers and make sure you are getting a good price deal and good coverage as well. ..My advice...

I'm currently insured with American Strategic Insurance through Mid-South Insurance.

$2540 for the year. I paid $1014 last year.

I got Banner Insurance to quote me from 2 different companies, Lighthouse & Imperial, and both came back under $1100 / year.

You want to make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Same coverages, dedcutibles, etc. Some mortgage holders won't allow large hurricane deductibles without the supplemental policy from La Citizens. That isn't cheap.

ASI took huge rate increases. They discovered they are not rate adequate. Expect increases if you are with ASI. Mine went from $900 to $1400.

With that big of a rate increase you need to call your agent. That is more than a rate increase IMO. Something changed on your policy other than a typical rate increase IMO.

If any of you are with Bankers, hang on. They are going up drastically too.

Those companies are fine as long as you don't have to file a claim.

Geovera and Maison are the best as far as affordability is concerned.
