Verizon CEO Wants To Charge Video Gamers More Money For Internet Access

Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam thinks that people who use a heavy amount of broadband should have to pay more for home Internet access according to IDG News Service.
This includes people who are constantly streaming high-definition videos or downloading tons of video games, notes BGR.
McAdam addressed several issues that came up regarding net neutrality during a conference call discussing the recent stake of Vodafone in Verizon Wireless.
Previously, Netflix accused Verizon of impeding streaming traffic, similar to what happened with Comcast.
It turns out that this issue was because of peering congestion, which means that the middleman system Netflix uses to stream content to Verizon customers couldn’t handle the traffic that was flowing through it.
While Verizon is expecting a deal from Netflix to stream content without interruption, McAdam expects that service providers and heavy broadband users should pay more money in order to keep the Web healthy.
“It’s only natural that the heavy users help contribute to the investment to keep the Web healthy,” McAdam explained during the call. “That is the most important concept of net neutrality.”

The FCC needs to reign these greedy fricks in and Google needs to hurry and just cover the whole USA with fiber. We already have speeds lower than 3rd world countries and not everyone can even get high speed access yet they want you to pay more for their shitty service. This is an issue that really bothers me.
If you aren't aware they are also trying to stop municipalities from contributing to or operating their own internet service because "it creates less competition in the market." Those of you who enjoy the service in Laffayette will be fricked too if that bill passes.

FIOS has some of the best internet in the country. But you are right ive had 100 meg down for the last year and half in Germany. interwbz that fast made pulling the plug on tv has been that much easier. 50 bucks tops for internet and watch what ever you want and game.

I will never understand why we allow these damn ISP monopolies to control everything and basically force tiny providers out of the market.

Verizon is one of the few companies that offer dedicated fiber so this is kinda of different they would say this. Esp with google fiber making noise and crushing their speeds.

The people who use the most bandwidth are probably the ones with jobs, and we already pay more in taxes (or pay taxes at all). So there.

Your money is like medicine to the web, and right now the web has cancer, don't you want to help the web?

I don't think this is true. I think those use the most bandwidth are college kids downloading games, TV shows, and other media through torrents.

Also, if it were all up to Verizon they would NEVER lower prices on anything. frick them. I will never own a Verizon product or service.
This is the same CEO that said unlimited data plans on phones need to go away and they only lowered prices on their plans after taking a beating the last quarter or two.
