Crappy Work Assignment

Company has me working off site as a government subcontractor doing absolutely nothing related to my field.
I feel like it's a waste of time. I'm not learning anything of any value, and it's extremely uninteresting. I'm not one to complain being that I started last April, but I've been in this role for 6 months and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
Gut instinct is telling me to ride it out and it will work in my favor in the future, but I also feel like I'm wasting valuable time to gain experience before I test for my P.E.
Advice.

What discipline and what speciality are you pursuing?
If you're not happy, the opportunities are out there right now

Civil. We specialize in coastal, drainage, waste, and general engineering.. My first 6 months with the company that's what I had my hands in, and I loved it.
They've since moved me off-site, and it's not been anywhere near the same.

If you have a good relationship with your supervisor, I'd communicate your concerns to them
Don't sound like you're complaining, just ask to be challenged more and tell them what you want to do
I've been lucky to have good bosses my career thus far
I'm a CE as well

What croaka said, BUT your bosses response and following actions will tell you what to do next. I was in a similar situation as OP but it was about moving offices (abt 2 hrs apart).
If he tells you what you want to hear and then actively starts trying to move you I'd stay put and wait.
He might say what you want to hear and do nothing which will take a few months for you to figure out, but when you do I would go find another job.
I also always try to stay for at least a year at a company before I quit.

This. I'd only add that if you don't feel comfortable having this discussion with your boss you should be looking for a new one anyway.

I've heard that at cb&i, the office folks have to wear ties
If there's any truth to that, no thanks

Dunno abt the ties, but who cares? If someone said they would pay me more to wear a tie. I would have one on every day.

Not an engineer, but I am a professional in a field that likes to hire people right out school, stick them in large firms, have them do mind-numbing boring stuff for a few years until they "figure it out" and firms don't really care if you are getting the experience needed to help with the professional certification.
You either work at a place that wants to develop you as a professional, or, you work at a place that churns and burns young staff and they don't care that much if you leave, cause there is a new wide-eyed graduate around the corner.
How do you know? As others have said, have a talk with your supervisor. Tell him/her that you have appreciated your time so far, but, that you want to expand your horizons while you are still new and you are interested in working in blah blah blah areas. If they care about your development, they will try to staff you in those areas. If they don't, they won't.
