Daily Mail article

quote:

A suspected art thief has been photographed trying to hack a Banksy - potentially worth thousands of dollars - from the wall of a rundown building in New Orleans. The man, who identified himself only as Chris, claimed he was a 'private art handler' moving it to the Tate Modern art gallery in London for an upcoming retrospective in April. The world famous gallery insisted no such exhibition was scheduled, when contacted by MailOnline.

What a douchebag

Edit: NOLA.com article

Is theft of an abandoned building worse than vandalism of an abandoned building?

Isn't it from a template? Can't he just spraypaint another wall?

It's not his building. He's stealing it to sell it.

So instead of painting over it he jackhammers it out?

I think Bansky is overrated anyway. I see cooler shite on Deviantart people make.

So it's about as valuable as those preprinted paintings the hacks sell on the streets of Paris, right?

The ones they spray to make it look like they were wet and just painted?

I expect the OT Sherlock brigade to have a name and FB page for this guy within the hour.

If he had gotten it off it could have been a lucrative job. Surprised it's outlasted the grey buffer.

What a tool. An electric jackhammer is definitely not the tool for that job.

That graffiti was probably the best thing that ever happened to the building.

So if the guy chiseling away at the building is famous, it's okay?

I'm curious if the SFM is gonna go after him for removing a large chunk of a load bearing wall without shoring. Also, It'd be funny if the wall fell on him.

I understand the point you're trying to make. Regardless of your opinion on Banksy or how it got there, the building owner's wanted it and this guy was trying to steal it in broad daylight.
