Bar I go to makes a very good beef stew. I want the recipe, but don't know if rude to ask. They told me yesterday that a key ingredient is actually prunes or prune juice. Can't remember which.

Just ask. They will be flattered, may or may not share the recipe.

Don't invite me over for dinner if you know whats good for you.

And it never hurts to just ask. They can always say no.

I'm intrigued ... mind sharing the recipe if you can get it?

Ask.

If they don't tell you its because they get it cooked from Sisco
