New Beard nominees are out. https://www.nola.com/dining/index.ssf/2014/02/post_19.html#incart_river

In the category of "Best Chef: South," which covers Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas and Puerto Rico, the local semifinalists are Justin Devillier of La Petite Grocery, Justin Girouard of the Lafayette's French Press, Ryan Prewitt of Peche, Alon Shaya of Domenica, Michael Stoltzfus of Coquette, Isaac Toups of Toups' Meatery and Sue Zemanick of Gautreau's.

Will be interesting to see if another local wins this year. Several deserving locals IMO.

Plenty of exposure for several of this years nominees(Devillier, Zemanick).

Personally pulling for Alon S. or Michael S.

What say you F&D board judges?

Lots of others as well. Cure, French 75, Brigtsen's, Ann T. from Tales. Will be interesting to see who makes finalist list but that is some tough judging ahead for the Beard folks.

I've eaten at everyone of those restaurants except French Press in the last 10 months or so.

My best meal was at Gautreau's.

Thanks

Just cut & pasted from NOLA.

Couldn't find an official list on the official site.

Certainly hope Peche can take home Best New Restaurant.

Best new restaurant, as well as best restaurant, usually goes to NYC, CHI, or San Fran spots. Places that get lots of voters going through them. I certainly think Peche is one of the best restaurants to open this year, but I'd be more willing to bet a New Orleans chef takes home a Best Chef of the South, than a New Orleans restaurant or bar win something.

That's a really good point.

I hope NOLA gets another winner as several on the list are deserving.
