With free agency less than a month away and the franchise tag period opening today, I thought it would be good to look at the current roster as a whole and see where the holes are(both for starters and depth). I'm adding in the RFAs and Graham as they are all likely to be brought back.

Looking over the list, which can change if more guys get cut, these are the holes I see:

Veteran Backup QB
Veteran Starting or Backup T
Starting or Backup C/G
Starting CB
Veteran Backup S

Now obviously if Griffin has progressed the first isn't a need(and still would only be a slight need if not because we rely on Brees so much).

CB is dependent on if they really see Robinson or White being a starter. I have my doubts so this is my number one need. As far as depth itself, that's not an issue. We have plenty of nickel guys.

I think C and S are a pretty close 2 and 3.

We have no 3rd safety period and we could use someone with some experience to put with our young guys.

Regardless of if Lelito can start or not we need someone else to put in the mix.

At tackle, we could look to bring in a vet to start at RT and let Harris be the swing tackle, or if they like Harris enough just bring in a vet to add reliable depth.

Most of the other stuff is adding bodies to a few spots, but if certain guys get cut that could change some of these priorities.

And there's also the matter of getting younger/better/cheaper at some spots(WR/G/ILB) but this was more of just a rundown of immediate holes.

Does it come with his money?

But really I was curious to see myself how the different positions stacked up and where the holes were.

I thought we had another young safety for instance, but only Vaccaro is currently under contract.

And other things look surprising at first, like the lack of bodies at C/G until you realize Payton only carries 4 total on the 53(the starters and one backup) with another on the PS.

And then there's spots like OLB where people think we still need to add bodies until you see the we have 2 starters and a good backup in Dawson, with another 2 young guys competing.

And then you may look at the implications of cutting someone like Bunkley. That leaves us only one guys as a pure nose, but Hicks and Walker can also rotate there.

I know, just fricking around. But really if I win do I get his money?

@Breesus, thanks. And yeah Oline is kind of scary not knowing how much the front office trusts(or doesn't) some of these young guys. We could be all set or we could be missing 2 starters.

As for corner, I like our depth with a bunch of nickel types, but definitely need a starter imo.

If we don't get Swanson (center from Arkansas) in the 2nd round, I say the Saints ought not draft a center until the late rounds...not sold on using a 2nd round pick on Richburg just because he did well at Senior Bowl...plenty other centers who could be had in 4th or 5th round
