The chances of this being a relocation of their firearms plant in NY are slim to none and slim just left town. Probably just an expansion for gear and accessories. Will be awesome for Huntsville, lots of new jobs.

I can tell you the statements about a major industry partner and they don't want the name released until the meeting is true...but who it is, is beyond me.

Im hearing, through DoD channels out of Redstone, that a major firearms manufacturer is moving in to the area.

That would be very awesome if Remington moved.

I think they will do like some of the other firearms manufacturers have. Build "new operations" in other states, like Ruger to NC, Beretta to TN, etc., then expand these operations and close down the old ones. At least I think that's how they're doing it...

If they did...I'd consider a 700 .308.

Remington Arms moving 2,000+ jobs from NY to Alabama

quote:

High level sources have informed Yellowhammer News that Remington, one of the world’s largest gun manufacturers, will on Monday join Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley in announcing that they are bringing over 2,000 jobs to Alabama.

The company is viewing the move into Alabama as an expansion, but it will likely impact their Ilion, NY plant as well. The New York facility currently employees around 1,200 people. It is expected to stay open, but with a reduced workforce.

“The company is making the move as an expansion of capacity, production and research,” a source told Yellowhammer on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. “The demand for Remington products has skyrocketed recently, for obvious reasons, so they need to increase their production capacity. They will be expanding their research capabilities with the Alabama plant, too.”

The initial estimated impact on Alabama’s economy will be roughly $87 million.

It's outstanding news. All firearms manufacturers need to expand to pro-gun states.

Sucks they had to go to the worst state in the south...

I kid.

Bring the jobs on down here. If only we didn't have Mary Landrieu scaring them away from Louisiana.

I would think Lower Bama and La, would be ideal for relocations, major ports and plentiful workforce.

Just some of the people. Otherwise the place kinda grows on you...it'll never be home (SWLA)....but it's not bad...but on the plus..there's diversity in the work environment here and not just petro chem industries.

Two sources with knowledge of the deal told The Military Times that Remington will purchase a 500,000-square-foot building to be used for manufacturing, new product development and training for the company's commercial, military and law enforcement businesses. Production is not expected to begin before 2015, the website said.

The site of the potential Remington plant is unclear, but sources said it would be in far west Huntsville near the Huntsville International Airport.

Good deal. Bring all the gun manufactures to a place that appreciates them. May have to buy a new Rem 6 mm.
