I see camps out in the marsh areas of Delacroix, etc. How do people get these land rights?

I would love to get a lease, or buy outright, on a little piece of land out in the marsh around Delacroix, Dularge, anywhere salty, and have pylons driven in and build my self a camp. I've been told that oil companies often lease out land, but I've not been able to find anything about it online.

I know someone on here has to have some insight to this.

call the land company listed on the signs in the area you are interested in. they usually have someone in the office that handles these leases for them. we have had 2 over the years and they are really fun but a lot of work if starting from scratch. keep in mind that you will rebuild eventually (andrew once and rita was the straw that broke the camel's back).

I know someone who just leased like 600 acres of marsh around Dularge. They just called up the land company and there was some available. A marsh camp is tough though. You have to haul everything back and forth, worry about storms and thieves, build a water system, generator, etc.

My family has a marsh camp in cocodrie. Leased the land from an oil company. Its a bitch to build and keep up, but its so dam nice out there its worth it. camp shifts about a foot every time a hurricane comes. Lost the roof about 3 times, but that is probably our fault due to poor material and construction.

we have gotten broken into once in about 20 years. but it was recently.

Conoco/LL&E or Apache are your main owners in the Dularge area.

I would guess just call their houma office and asking about land to lease for building a camp.

I'm glad you guys go through the trouble of maintaining these. I can't tell you how many times we had to seek refuge from a storm in a marsh camp.

Here's ours. LINK

Well used to be... Old Texaco bunk house. Biggest pain in the arse I have ever dealt with. IIRC we bought the camp and leased the "land" under it for like 100 years. After Katrina we just left it. Haven't been back since.

I've been to the red camp 2 "doors" down to the southwest. It's the only island in that view. Was beautiful out there. I believe it's been largely abandoned (at least by the part owner I know).

Everything everyone has said before me is true. Marsh camps are the shite but they require more work than a camp at the road. Like others have said, call the land company and see if they know of anything available. If you're getting nowhere, go knocking on doors on a busy weekend. Someone will know someone wanting to get rid of a camp.

I may know of a site available for building near mine. lsumotorboat at gmail

Here's mine in Dulac:

As you can see, the pier needs repair. this will take me renting a boat or barge to transport lumber, as well as driving new piles, maybe hiring some southern Americans and a full 4 day weekend to get it all done. It needs painting, a new A/C unit. Don't forget the 400 lb generator that is in the shop that I have to haul in and out of the truck, boat and into the generator shed the next time I go. Bottom line--it is WORK, but all worth it when you see this:

It's not a marsh camp if you can drive a truck to it or run an electric stove!

Oh- now I see. shite. you are right there. I haven't figured out how to get to you. Too shallow. You have a nice chunk of land. You have to mow that?

Yep, been through about 4 or 5 riding mowers. we are about to start going to last island by passing by your camp, we keep getting bigger boats and the marsh keeps getting shallower by the camp,... ahah

One day I'll get a modest houseboat and use it as hub for camping and yak fishing. Pay for a location to keep it somewhere down south and have the ability to drive it to safety in case of a hurricane.

Is there a specific contact who deals with leases? I'm interested in leasing some marsh for duck hunting from them.
