My GSP aka a-hole is a possessive sum bitch. But, he took it to far about 5min ago and damn near paid for it with the loss of some teeth and or his life. We always give him toys and it takes a couple of days for him to mellow out with them... but, I got him this treat/chew toy deal from the local jefferson feed place and that sum bitch is over the top possessive with it. I was sitting on the couch with the wife and him and he started growling at me.... he had a come to jesus moment shortly thereafter. But, have you guys had any issues like this?

Grab him flip him on his back and stare him down. Make him submit. This not not a shock collar beat the dog correction this is mental and he needs to understand you run the house...

You need to establish dominance and it sounded like you did that. Put him on his back, hand on throat, stare into his eyes till he looks away. He'll learn.

I have had a few of these interactions with my female.

Oh, I did that and a little more. Stared that sum bitch down until the hair went down and he started shaking. I dared him to try and bite me. Just so I could prove the point to him. I grew up dealing with bullmastiffs. My parents showed and bred them for about 25 years. I've been caught in the middle of some deep shite b/w some powerful dogs and came out with scars to prove it.... I'll be damned if 57lb bastard will get the better of me. This just makes me a little more cautious around other people or kids for that matter....

I've never had it come to something like that...

Any dog I have had, I have peacefully put them in place at young ages and have never had problems with aggression

I've never had this problem at all.... like i said previously, my dog experience is based in bullmastiffs. from the time i was 10 we had at least 3 at the house at all times. Never, had they done that. He has never done it with regular toys although when you first give him something new he is like a 2 yr old and has the its mine phase for a little bit..... but, this thing is some sort of flavored stick of stuff. Its part of my quest to find something I can give him that last more than 20min and Its working. He just didn't like me near him and it was a slight growl and a look. I jerked him off the couch and to the room with his kennel and bed. Busted his arse and stared him down until he went from hair standing to quivering and put him in the kennel with the door open. He came out about 10min later... peaking around the corner

I have two and haven't had a problem that severe. I've worked hard from the beginning to make sure they know who's boss and that they aren't possessive ie always taking their toys and putting my hand in their food bowl while eating. My make is very protective over the gf, but that's a good thing.

Sounds like you need to be a little more strict with him bc they'll take advantage of you if you let them. They're smart little shitheads.

I had the same thing happen with my dog. I bought her a small tire chew toy with a rope on it. The Mrs. walked by her and she growled and snapped at her leg. I pinned her down, starred into her eyes until she started whining. She took off to the back of the house and then I felt like crap. She then proceeded to run back up to the front, tail going to town, and stepped on my jewels. Needless to say it took about 2 days and she forgot about the damn toy.

When I was guiding duck hunts there was a fellow who would drive up from Baton Rouge several times a year to duck hunt with his chessy. First hunt of every season we knew it was going to be a shitshow. First duck on the first hunt the dog would not want to give up the duck. The dog would growl and the owner would go fist to cuffs with the dog. After that first duck the dog was all good until next November. Can't remember if I more or but it was pathetic

the one recurring problem I have had with nearly all of my dogs - they think MY food is there food - non would hesitate to snatch a burger even while I am taking a bite out of it... meanwhile they leave everyone else's food alone..

I've never had any problems with my lab, but Ive been play wrestling with her since she was a pup......and I never lose . Seriously, just from friendly playing around she knows who's the boss and knows I can manhandle her if needed. And I've never been to the point where I'm hurting her, she's always up for it. Only problem is sometimes she thinks I'm pissed at her when I'm not. Sometimes when I yell a command when training in the field she cowers down like she's done something wrong . My dogs kind of a pussy.
