Personally I would love to have him in a Falcons uniform, but does anyone think that some NFL teams might view him as a major distraction?

I think initially him being gay will be a distraction. After he makes some plays and other stories come up then it won't be anything.

Depends on how big the media circus is

But anyone who says it won't be a distraction at all is a liar.

I guarantee you all 32 NFL head coaches don't want that ruckus following around this upcoming season.

You should not be allowed to start threads if you don't know how to spell the names of the people you are starting to start threads about.

Also applies to Charlie Weiss, Chase Daniels and Payton Manning

I don't think players have a problem showering with the dude but he's got to understand that he can't bump Gaga in the locker room.

Similar to manti teo and incognito strories, it will pretty quickly become a non issue once people get over the "shock factor"

Very little. A little extra media for a short time and that is about it.

He himself will not be a distraction. The distraction will come when the media asks every single one of his teammates their thoughts on homosexuality over and over. Initially they'll be diplomatic in their responses but then they'll get sick of the questions and inevitably someone is gonna say something they shouldn't.

Then we'll have a nation-wide debate about bigotry vs. standing up for your beliefs. Inevitable.

It probably depends on the which team and city he ends up with.

It can be as big or little a distraction as Sam wants it to be. He could essentially shut the media down by saying it was important for him to say it, but now that it's out he has football to focus on. Basically saying that his sexuality does not define him and he's focused on football. Now if he makes all the rounds on Ellen, MSN be, etc and carries the torch in a public manner for gay athletes expressing themselves a team may not want to deal with that in a late round pick similarly to not wanting to deal with Tebow 's traveling revival.

Heard some radio guys today say he would be fine in a Belichek locker room.

How quick would Bill shut down a gay player line of questioning.

ETA Or if a GLADD backed/sponsored reporter really tried to grill him on something.

There are a lot of players who will have a problem with it. Every single one is getting lots of lecturing from their agents about what not to say! Reminds me though of an Eddie Murphy skit:

"Hey, me and the guys are gonna' go have some beers. Wanna' come?"

"No, I think I'm going to go suck a dick."

"Oh, okay. You go suck that dick. We'll see you later."

I dunno...that only works if the gay player stays in the closet and marries a Victoria's Secret model for show.

If the media was not all over this shite, not a damned thing.

The media will make thus a distraction.
