Article about the rise in heroin use, number of arrests, and overdoses in EBR. Pretty depressing, too, as it talks about a guy who grew up to shithead parents and started using when he was 8 years old.

Got a friend who is an EBR cop and we were just talking about this this weekend. He said is out of control and they are about to have training for some nasal drug that will reverse the od process.

Heroin has exploded into the market since they really cracked down hard on pharmaceutical drugs. It'll probably continue to rise in use since it is so much cheaper.

By all means though, let's make sure weed is not available as an alternative pain killer. So many people move on to heroin after running out of their prescription for Oxy (or other opiates).

Uhh, that is what heroin essentially is. Many start off on prescription pain killers (opiate based) and move on to heroin when they can't get or afford the pills any more. Sure, by the time they get to heroin they aren't looking to calm their back pains, but it starts that way, often.

If that's the case, whether they are doing prescription drugs or heroin, they are still addicted to the same thing. Making prescription drugs harder to get is only going to make people who are already pill poppers turn to heroin.

My point is that, if they were prescribed weed as a pain killer instead of Oxy, they might not go down this path.

Look, I'm all for legalized pot. But to try and claim that the rise in heroin use is due to people needing pain meds is just stupid.

If we are being totally honest with ourselves the rise in heroin is a result in more people wanting to get fricked up. We've become a party culture.. simple as that.
