Looking to book a trip in the Punta Cana area for May with a few buddies. My budget for a 4 night stay leaves me at about the 4 star level. Any suggestions on resorts would be appreciated with personal experiences if possible.

How much is actually included and what things do you end up having to pay for?
Excursions? Where to go for decent nightlife?

TIA

Stayed at the Barcelo Bavaro and it was nice. We stayed at the adults only one; definitely recommend that if you are traveling with no kids.

Stayed at the Melia Caribe which was massive and the Zoetry which is much more romantic. Melia is almost like an amusement park it's so huge.

Didn't do any fishing so can't help there.

Few buddies? I'd go somewhere else. Not much to do on the island - most resorts are honeymooners and Europeans. I'd try to find a location with more nightlife or off resort activities, like Belize, Costa Rica or Cabo.

Went to Paradisus Palma Real. Was amazing and truly all inclusive. However, like previous poster said, you can't really go off the resorts, so I would go elsewhere.

I agree. I had a blast in DR but it's definitely more couple oriented. That being said, there things for dudes to do.

Do cabo....and I can give you the lowdown. We go every June as a family but I've also been to 3 bachelor parties there so I can offer both perspectives.

Stayed at the Now Larimar for 7 nights with the wife for our 1st anniversary and spent less than $3K total.

Only thing we paid for were excursions, taxi fare, and some tips. Everything else included.

Resort was nice but not extravagant - very much a 4-star. Nightlife at the resort or any other resort is going to be what you make of it. We typically spent our evenings in the casino and our days by the pool/beach.

As others mentioned, lots of honeymooners and Europeans but I'd definitely go back.

When we went about 3 years ago, we stayed at Secrets Resort, it was all inclusive and was pretty nice, we had our own suite with a pool overlooking the ocean. I think the ownership has changed and allows kids in some areas now. Had a great time, and look forward to going back.
