Should We? Here's how ya do it

I have no problem with any Should We? thread if the poster tries to make a case. Here's 5 from a blogger that presents more than just the question or simply saying he was once good...
1. Anthony Spencer, OLB, Dallas Cowboys: I mentioned this on twitter already this week and this one makes a lot of sense. Spencer was an absolute star for Rob Ryan in 2012. He was so good, in fact, that the Cowboys slapped him with the franchise tag last offseason and paid him about $9 million for a year. Problem is, his knee was a mess and after one game he had microfracture surgery and was placed on IR for the season. He's 30 and coming off a surgery that serious, a surgery that wasn't very successful for Jonathan Vilma and Darren Sharper, so he's not going to get franchised and he's not going to command a huge contract. I have a feeling he won't want to be back in Dallas, either, after how bad the defense was a year ago. The Saints have the talent that they can bring him along slowly and they don't *need* Spencer, but if he can get back anywhere close to normal he'd be a nice addition. I think his relationship with Rob Ryan would clearly be a beneficial factor in bringing him to the Saints.
3. Nick Folk, K, New York Jets: I think it's time the Saints invest in a rock solid kicker. I don't know that that can happen financially, and maybe the Saints will settle for giving Shayne Graham some young competition. But imagine getting a rock solid veteran that you know won't miss? There's three kickers on the market that could be available in Steven Hauschka of the Seahawks, Dan Carpenter of the Bills and Folk. All three of those guys are close to automatic. Hauschka is probably my favorite of the three, but the Seahawks will do anything necessary to keep him and they could franchise him. Even if they don't a Super Bowl winning kicker that's missed just two all year will get overpaid for sure on an open market. Carpenter is a possibility if the Bills franchise Jairus Byrd again. I'm not going to give the lazy argument that Folk kicked for Rex Ryan and that somehow makes him more likely to come to the Saints because his brother is the defensive coordinator. But if Sean Payton decides he's had enough of worrying about that position he'll consider this investment.
4. Quintin Demps, FS, Kansas City Chiefs: Demps is a bit of an NFL journeyman that will be 29 in June and only made $700,000 last year. He was a bit of a surprise in the Chiefs defense, though, with 4 interceptions. Malcolm Jenkins, by contrast, has had 6 interceptions in 5 seasons. I'm not saying Demps would be a huge addition, but I do think he's a veteran that knows how to play and he would give the Saints more playmaking ability on the back end than they've been used to. He shouldn't cost too much either.

1. Spencer - can legitimately see giving him a 1yr/2yr contract similar to how James Harrison's contract wasn't too big (2yr/4.45mil). I rather a 1 year loaner. Worst case, we lose money for a trial run. Best case, we get production out of him and he gets a fat 3-4 year deal if he produces elsewhere. Low risk, high reward. Knows Rob's system so he can plug and play
2. Talib - gonna cost too much, I put this in the "chances are it ain't happening" category.
3. Folk - He hit 91.7% (33/36) last year and is a career 80.3% kicker. His only misses last year were @ miami, home vs. cleveland, and at buffalo. All outdoors and all in the 30-49 range.
The buffalo kick was just HORRIBLE wind

He signed w/ the jets for 795k last year. He wants a long-term contract. I think he's worth of at least 2mil yr contract. Not sure the market will pay him that high. I'm not sure of the numbers, but I think robbie gould got an extension: 4yr/15mil (9mil guaranteed) last year.
4. Demps would be good depth. He had a solid year as a back up to one of the better safeties in the league. With the chances of us retaining harper high (cost to cut him, and how much we save; I see a pay cut) and jenkins as a FA this might be a good 2 year deal. Might have some value in the return game as well. A core of safeties: Harper, Demps, Bush, and Vaccaro looks REALLY nice on paper.

5. Smith - we have too much invested in guards, but can he play center?

None of them went to LSU. We do not a thread for them.

Spencer - micro fracture surgery - pass
Folk - will probably command more than we can pay next year. Same for Hauschka. Carpenter could be a possibility.
Demps - had a career year. 4 picks. Jenkins had 6 picks in 5 years. Demps has had 7 in 6 years. I wouldn't consider Demps much, if at all, an upgrade unless you just think you can shed salary. Jenkins has had about 200 more tackles. Pass on Demps for me.
The other 2:
Talib. Really? If we could afford him then yes. Count me in, but I don't think that is a realistic option.
The G. I am all for protectin Drew, but I would be surprised with so much money tied into that position already next year.

Folk has played the last 4 years on 1 year contracts, only at $715K in 2013.
2-3 years at $1-1.5mil per would seem like a giant improvement for him.

Having a reliable kicker seems like it would be worth the money. I just don't think that you are saving a ton of money by going cheap at that position.
Most of the top paid kickers in 2013 were somewhere around the 1.5m-3m cap hit range. The exception being Janikowski at a ridiculous almost 5m. But he plays for the Raiders, and I don't expect many to be as silly as them. So assuming about 2m as a reasonable expectation for him and about 500k for a cheaper option, we wouldn't exactly be breaking the bank to get a guy who could be the difference in the inevitable close games throughout the season. A little bit of added security would be well worth the extra 1m-1.5m spent on the position.
Kicker's salaries for 2013.

Hartley only had one season under 80% and everyone was happy to see him go.
Folk was great last year, but was below 80% the previous 4 seasons.
As bad as Hartley was in the end, he still has a higher make % than Folk. Pass.
