Let me first say that I still think A Beautiful Mind is good drama. However, I think it is a failure in regards to two things:

1) the movie fails to properly examine John Nash's theories, which were incredibly fascinating. A better screenwriter would have better integrated the man's work into a biopic.

2) the dramatic licensing is way too excessive. The movie is practically fiction. I just don't understand why they had to change so many details about his life.

I'm gonna get slammed for this but...

"Lone Survivor"

To me, it was just a movie with a 45 min fire fight in it.

They should have done back stories on the guys.

I can actually agree with this, but not for the same reason as you.
Back stories would have taken up too much time I think, but better character development would have been very easy and everyone wouldnt walk away with the "I couldnt tell who was who until 3/4 of the way through." They also could have stuck closer to the book, I actually like the way the book ends better, and I think it would have carried over to the screen just fine.

Cripes. That's the same terrible excuse people use for not liking Zero Dark Thirty.

i havent seen people say that, seems like a completely different type of movie

lone survivor was great knowing that it was based on a true story

if it was a fictional movie though, it would be a pretty shitty one

lets be honest

John Nash was/is a schizophrenic and a profound a-hole, so I'm not sure an accurate portrayal of his life would have made a good movie.

People have definitely said that about ZDT. They wanted to know more about the SEALs and less about following around the redhead. I totally disagree with that. Then it would just be Act of Valor.

Why would it not be a good movie if it was a fictional movie?

It wouldn't be a good story because the characters are just empty shells

Now I know that's how they were trying to portray them in the movie to show how they operate, but it doesn't make for an interesting movie IMO

I'm done derailing this thread though
