Bringing the ole lady down for an early vday dinner. Got a couple choices in mind and wanted some suggestions or feed back on dinner at Dominica, Mr Bs, or Sylvains. I've never been to any of these and wanting to try something new. Thanks for any input

Domenica and Sylvain are excellent choices, but Id call now for a reservation at both. Sylvain will be a touch more intimate while Domenica will be livelier.

Love all three, but Mr. B's is the weak sister in that group. Sylvain has a bit more of a bar atmosphere so not sure its quite the setting for V-Day, but the food is great. Domenica is one of my favorites, and depending on how early, they do a daily happy hour from 3-6 where pizzas (high quality, gourmet type) and drinks are 1/2 price.

meh. Maybe it was a bad experience, but I am not a fan. Went there last year and found the food hit or miss.
I highly recommend Cafe Amelie. The courtyard is beautiful, and the food is outstanding.

Consider Le Foret if you want something a little more romantic.

Why do people keep suggesting Le Foret?
It was awesome, AWESOME when Jimmy Corwell was manning the stoves. Probably one of the best restaurants New Orleans had ever seen. Since he left, the only thing holding it together is a halfway decent maitre d', which is something to admire.

It's odd that someone would build this wildly extravagant restaurant - basically built around the whole notion that they were getting this "Certified Master Chef." And then, when he decides to leave, think they could just keep this wildly extravagant operation running essentially without anyone else at the helm.
I've admittedly never eaten there (it doesn't seem like many are these days), but I know enough of the story to find it really odd as far as a business decision.

Sadly, I agree on LeForet. Had two earth shattering meals there when Corwell was cooking. Went last month - meh.

take her to a Buffet, JMFG.

on serious note, Mr. B's is crap for the buck. Dominica is good but there are better places. My favorite date places are LaBoca and Root around the corner from my place in the warehouse dist.
If you want to go uptwon I recommend Mr. Johns for a steak or La Petite Grocery for more new orleans type quisine.
Jacque Imo's on Oak is legit but they don't do reservations. There are plenty of bars around to get drinks at while waiting for a table.
Good luck

What I understand is there is so much money behind Le Foret (they also are/were involved in the new Dominique's on Magazine and are building spot on Harrison) that such trivial matters are unimportant.
Corwell was a beast. Still remember fondly a butternut squash soup with a foie gras flan.

Seriously, it's a fun place to go have drinks and cut up with a group for dinner, but it is loud as all hell and always crazy crowded. And the quality really isn't all that to me.
To each his own.
Hell, I thought Le Foret was supposed to be good.

I disagree. I think it's a perfect date / Valentine's day spot. It's lively but still intimate, and has a sexy vibe. Better than the stuffy places where a violinist comes by your table.
And you're right, the food is killer. Sylvain would be my pick of the 3. Followed by Mr. B's then Domenica.

Love Domenica but it's not particularly romantic.
Check out Gautreau's.

Love Gautreau's but the smell of mothballs permeating the room the last time I ate there was a buzzkill.
In the 80 or so years since these old ladies purchased their St John suits, you would think that some genius would have invented a better mothball.
