How many of you who have traveled extensively and or lived overseas for a good period of time still think America is the most awesome country on earth?

Before I joined the military and saw the world, and since I have lived in a foreign country for many years, I would say my views have changed from a chest thumping God Bless America type to believing that America kinda...well...you know...sucks.

I've worked all over the world, other countries are good for visiting and tax shelters if you are ready to surrender your passport, but when it comes to having a car, nice sized home, safety in general, ability to get food and water that is more than likely not going to make you sick then you can't beat the US. Countries you think might be good to live in besides the US have ridiculous taxes (australia). If I were to leave the US I would go to argentina but would sacrifice some of the finer things in life that come with living in the US. The americans I know who live overseas have done so for a cheaper cost of living and love it but it's not for everybody.

Totally opposite. America is awesome after I saw what Europe was like.

There are definitely other countries where I could live and be happy. There are beaucoup places I'd like to visit. In particular, I enjoyed Canada pretty much all of Europe. The U.S. is still my first choice as far as where I'd want to live.

I'm visiting Australia and New Zealand hopefully next year. Everything I've heard about those two countries from the people I know that live there tells me it's going to be a great trip... But I doubt I'll prefer them to the U.S.

And my opinion has absolutely nothing to do with having a "Merica!" attitude.

I've been to Mexico and lived in Japan. Both experiences cemented how awesome America is. I love Japan, and could live there should an opportunity arise. But, 'Murka frick Yeah!

I've been to Mexico, but I haven't made it to Japan yet. I don't know how I'd feel living in a country smaller than California with 130 million people.

There are certain things that Europeans do better, and some that the US does.

I have lived overseas for the last 9 years and I love it. I still think the US is awesome....as does almost everyone in the world, even those who claim to hate us the most. What I have taken away from living overseas is that the US is not the only awesome place on earth to live....if your middle class then living in Europe is hard to beat as far as lifestyle. if your wealthy New Zealand is a pretty good alternative to the US and if your retired or independently wealthy then central America is paradise on earth. No, none of these are the US but they all offer things the US can't.

What I don't like about the US is Americans and the divide and hatred that we seem to show one another. Of course when something terrible happens like a hurricane we see the truth of what Americans are like...helping one another etc....but day to day we seem to have, for some reason., developed a need to display an attitude of not giving a tinkers dam for one another...I know charitable giving is up and all indicators are that we are very caring people but we like to pretend otherwise and that bothers me....

That and Australia would be the two other countries I'd like to live in.

As a consumer, America does everything better. Better restaurants, betters arts, better tv, better plays, better shows, better goods, better outdoors, etc. To me America allows beauty to flourish that I have not seen elsewhere.

True (Btw, British fake Chinese food is so below the standard of American fake Chinese food that it's hilarious).

I've now lived outside the US for the past 4 years. In total, I've lived (meaning at least 6 months) in 4 foreign countries. Each has its advantage and disadvantage compared to the US.

I miss the little things from home the most, like getting together for a BBQ or crawfish boil with friends and family, or watching familiar sports like baseball and football all weekend. There are things I don't miss, either.

I'm west of Swansea.

I work for a University, a Catholic-Orthodox research institute, and a church in Cardiff.

I gotcha. For some reason I thought you were studying to become a priest.
