Never been to either but the wife (no pics) and I are thinking about taking a trip to one or the other sometime this summer.

Not sure where to start to be honest.

What areas of each state to research?
Places to stay?
Things to do?

Jackson, Wyoming has two national parks, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, which are right down the road from each other. They can keep you occupied for days. A warning, the parks have fast food restaurants that have the worst fast food ever.

Go to Sun Valley/Ketchum, ID or Jackson Hole/Yellowstone in WY. Check out places in VRBO.com

Sun Valley is a vacation spot to the stars. Great skiing and good chance of spotting someone famous. Some have homes there such as Arnold Shwarzenegger, Tom Hanks, Dennis Miller.

Bad memory.

Been one time, literally started a forest fire, have never been back.

On vacation with the parents. In RV, it breaks down going up a hill in the middle of BFE. Catches on fire, before any response comes it had burned down a few trees, took three trucks and a tanker to put the fire out. We had to run barefoot in the dark and there was nothing could do. Felt bad about the trees that burned down, luckily no structures though.

It makes a good story, though. But yeah, that would be a bad memory.

Bozeman, MT. Access to Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Glacier. You also wont be fighting tourists like other areas. I prefer the less packed area and the locals are much more appreciative of outsiders. Montana is much more wild than the other states. One amazing thing to me in western Montana is that you can go from flat lowland grassland to being above a tree line, to a glacier within a days horseback ride. Its like cramming the scenery from Nebraska to Alaska all in about 50 miles. You will also see why real cowboys are from Montana

One of my favorites. Not sure it would be an ideal summer vacation spot though.

Stanley/Ketchum area would be ideal.
