Guitar players have the Les Paul or Fender Stratocaster. Acoustic has the Martin, Taylor, or Gibson.

What's the bass players holy grail?

It's what Lemmy from Motorhead uses, so it's probably true, no sarcasm

Paul with his rick... rickenbacker wins. Best bass in rock history.

I don't mean to hi-jack, but don't wanna start a new thread. I have a custom built bass my cousin made, and as for learning to play....I've heard different theories. One is "learn the neck", the other is "pick a song, learn the chords, and learn to play it".

What are you guys thoughts on the subject?

learn the chords

Learning bar chords on the guitar was crucial for me, cause from there you already know where to hit some runs on bass.

But after that, I just play by ear. I could never solo on guitar until I got pretty creative on bass.

I'd say more Fender Precision Basses are played than anything else, but I'd think the holiest of holies is a Rickenbacker.

Most Common: P-Bass
Most Iconic: Rick
"Best" sounding,playing: Warwick

**This response is purely subjective and is only derived from my limited playing of various bass guitars.
