12-14K for Polaris (will need to buy trailer too)
1-3 K base with 2-5 K in improvements for the CJ
Will be used for transportation of 3-6 people at a time and gear on local leases all within 30 mile radius, general off season work like moving stands, setting up feeders, filling feeders, and some food plot work with 2" hitch implements. Will be used to get to duck blinds during season and to get with in 4-500 yards of deer stands. Will be used to pick up downed game.
If I go with the Jeep it will be used on the highway to and from leases which will slow my transit some but I will likely make up the time by not having to hook up load/unload and unhook the trailer for the Polaris.
Our terrain is mixed sandy loam and areas of iron ore red clay with some steep elevation changes that so far I have been able to navigate with my Dodge Mega cab diesel so I should have no problem with either vehicle doing that.
These will be used in the woods and our trails are all 8-10 ft wide. When going into the duck marsh area the vehicle will need to drive through standing water up to 18" deep with mud bottom. Our fields get pretty mucky in the wet season and I have nearly stuck my truck twice now (other guys on lease actually accomplished burying their trucks though)
the Polaris should be turn key with a warranty
the jeep will be a project and no warranty
What says the collective wisdom of OB?

I'd go with a CJ8 (scrambler)
nothing like in cab heat for those cold days and the cJ8 has more room than a CJ5 or CJ7 all capable vehicles...equip either with front and rear air lockers or e-lockers and a get a winch just in case

Buy both. Both have qualities the other doesn't, as well as drawbacks.

I'd be shocked in the jeep can get you to and from the blind in a duck lease without being stuck a good bit of the time. But, it'll be quicker than the Ranger, and sometimes more comfortable, depending on the weather and destination. In tight spots, that Ranger is a long son of a gun to handle...the jeep won't be as cumbersome.

Pepp the CJ5 is my FIL and had heat added to it years ago. Hell I may even get it for free.

I'd go with the jeep & a small trailor to haul the critters, tools, etc.

You're a doctor.........get both.

My dad bought a CJ5 about three years ago when he was in the same situation. Granted, he does not hunt very much but uses it more for mud riding and recreation. Only thing I will say is that he has put several grand into the Jeep even after the initial fix up. Always something breaking or hoses need changing. He loves working on it and the money isn't a big deal for him so it works out perfectly for him. Just be ready to do continuous work on a Jeep if you go that route.

Quite the conundrum...

Need more info on the jeep. Is she a CJ5, CJ7? 6cyl, 4cyl, V8? If it has the 4cyl, avoid like the Plague. If it has the smaller I-6 you need to ditch the 1 barrel carburetor in favor of a weber 2 barrel. You need to know which transmission and transfer case it has, as well as which axles (all these items are not created equal). I'd get the Polaris if I needed maximum reliability. For hard usage and "cool" factor I'd get the jeep. But I'm severely biased, as my daily driver is an 83 CJ7.

Polaris will be more durable/reliable.

FIFY.

Polaris is absolutely more reliable than an old jeep. It doesn't stand for Just Empty Every Pocket by accident!

Jeep all day. A quality restomod would be tits. Polaris will be worth crap in 10 years while the CJ will have a market.
