If I see Okafor play as a Pelican, I quit.

He's better than anything we are trotting out at the 5 alongside Davis right now.

Perhaps the most unfairly criticized N.O. player ever. The guy was paid too much (like virtually every NBA 5), but he would make us better. Not considering salary, btw.

He is hated on because we gave up Tyson Chandler, a MUCH better option, for him.

It was much more complicated than that, though.

Complicated in what way? That we had a complete cheapass shithead for an owner? Or an incompetent medical staff?

Tyson Chandler anchored an NBA Championship and numerous high seeded playoff teams in the years after the trade. What has Okafor done?

Wasn't the Chandler trade the end of D. West?

No doubt.

Well, a lot of people spout that shite, but I really have no idea. I do know that the Thunder (and I assume its medical staff) 86'd the trade to that franchise because they thought Chandler was too much of a risk.

While with N.O., played very well against some of the best big men in the league. Does that count? His offense was inconsistent and he was undersized, but otherwise he was a very decent player. Better at the five than anyone on our current roster.

If you don't like $15 mil cap space miraculously appearing on the Pels books come summer, then I don't think you're a Pels fan. Ridding ourselves of EG's horrendous, superfluous contract this early is a GM's gold medal. EG is not the future, he's Joe Johnson 2.0 but seems to give even less fricks. I'd take 3 months of Okafor if it meant we'd have buku signing room for next summer. Plus we could re-sign okafor as a backup next summer for somewhere in the 2-3 mil range (childs play) to solidify our attempt to be Spurs redux. And then sign a big name free agent. Here's to contending ASAP, not when EG's piss poor contract expires

Okafor is done, there's a reason Miles Plumlee is starting and he isn't playing. Do not want (although I appreciate his effort for the Hornets). Neither Okafor or Chandler ever developed any semblance of an offensive game, fwiw.

complete exaggeration, although he was obviously solid for the Mavs that postseason

Yeah, because Okafor is injured. He's not "done." It's more about an expiring for Gordon than it is Okafor (who may not play this season). Still, Oak would be a really solid MLE type player for us next year if both sides were interested.

ETA: Though we wouldn't really have use of the MLE if we dumped EG for an expiring. Still, Oak for a 3/$14m type deal would be solid.

Well EG certainly has fallen short of his contract thus far.

I have no problem trading EG for anyone if it means cap space for next year.
That said, Okafor was terrible.
He's got no wingspan and isn't 7 feet tall. He would rarely attempt to protect the rim. Most games he'd rather move out the way then go up for a block. He had a few exceptions to that.
When we got him, i also thought we had a center who had an offensive game. wrong.
He gets paid too much money, just like every other 5 in the league.
and i'd rather have Ajinca, Smith, and Withey as my centers than Okafor.

I saw an interesting 3 way trade with Detroit and Orlando proposed by a fan on twitter yesterday.

Orlando gets Monroe, Stuckey
Pels get Villanueva, Afflalo
Detroit gets Gordon, Harkless, Nicholson, Stiemsma

I don't think that's a slam dunk deal, but I can't see it being bad enough for anyone that they just walk away with out talking it over some. On the one hand the Magic look like they are giving up the most, but on the other hand they are getting the best player back, a player they wouldn't otherwise have access to if they think Detroit would match next year.
