I'm sure those in the sport are great athletes and this is not an attack on Lolo Jones. She's clearly a world-class athlete and a hard worker. But unless I missed the bobsled track near the fieldhouse, it took her a year and a half from London to Sochi to pick up the sport and make it to the Olympics in that sport. I just find it hard to believe that this is that difficult a sport, given that short a transition.

The hard part (outside of being athletic) is having an "in" to learn how to bobsled and somewhere to practice.

Being an olympian probably gave her a lot more access than you or I would have.

Ya, that sounds right. I imagine even 90% of northerners aren't within an hour of a bobsled track. I sure as hell didn't know of any when I lived in New Hampshire.

its more likely that she simply has the proper combination of size and strength for this particular event.

if making a bobsled team was so east you would think there would be a ton more crossover athletes repping the US and other countries.

also, her being an elite female athlete probably makes it easier to cross over to other sports than it would be for a man simply b/c less women compete in sports.

Assuming she's not the driver or the break man...all she really has to do is run fast and jump in the sled. Doesn't seem like learning how to run on ice would take that long...

Jones also competes as a brakeman on the U.S. national bobsled team. She won a gold medal in the mixed team event at the 2013 World Championships. She will represent the U.S. at the 2014 Winter Olympics.[6]

well she was a trained Olympic athlete in a sport that has been proven as great cross trainer at bob sledding. However the hard part is the driving, the rest for the others is just basic training and athletic ability

indeed...well good for her. I would assume that driving and braking would be the more difficult parts to learn because all tracks are different.

Hershall Walker said it was a mutha farker to train for and compete.

It's a ton of training for 2ish minutes of racing.

Kind of like Nascar. You get in the car and the car does all the work. The teams with more money have faster cars.
