Maybe I've been to honest with folks on the phone but I've gotten 5 calls and only one wanted to come look at it.

How far should I drive to meet someone to show it to someone?

Would you let someone take it out on the water without you in it? ( may cut down on decision making time when husband and wife can discuss boat while testing it without me present instead of "we'll call you" after test drive)

I'm no salesman and hate being incovienuenced by people. Anybody used a consignment boat dealer to sell a boat?

I wouldn't let someone take it alone, but that's just me. As far as how far to drive, if you're not on the water I'd discuss a launching spot. Probably wouldn't drive until they had seen it though.

No chance in hell I would let someone take it out without me. Let them drive with me on it? Sure

If they were to cause an accident you would be liable being that it's your boat, no way I'm risking a stranger being in control of this without me observing

Now if it's a friend you know and trust on the water that's a different story

Depends on how bad you want to move it but if by show you mean someone just to look at it then they're going to have to come to me for that. If you mean in the water I'd pick a couple of places in advance that are close to you and offer them if someone wants to test it on the water.

Too many tire kickers with spare time out there. I'd let them come look at it, and if they're serious and want to take it out, THEN ya'll can go launch it at a place by you.

I sold my Xpress in 2009.I listed it on LASM and like you,had a lot of tire kickers call.I had a guy call from Houma and was very interested. He drove my house in Denham on a Sunday morning to look it over and hear it run.He liked what he saw and we agreed on a price. He wanted to see it run however so we met the following day at Freds and went for a drive. We left there and went to the notary. He paid me cash and took it home.If you have somebody serious they will come to your house if they want it bad enough.

What are you selling? That bass model Xpress?

I'm currently vehicle shopping and not 100% convinced I want. new whip at this time. I'm in a 2013 truck as it is. I am highly interested in a boat and could easily be skewed from the truck purchase to a boat purchase.

I'm currently in a 2013 4 door Tacoma 2WD with the V6. It is fine for me, but not big enough when I throw the wife and son in there. The wife has a Tahoe, so family space isn't an issue 90% of the time. I bought the truck on 12-31-12 and have put 24k highway Miles on it in 12 1/2 months. I'm wanting something bigger. Josey laughed at me for wanting a Tacoma when I got this one. He told me "Your big arse will be selling it within 6 months" numerous times. I got it appraised yesterday while working a deal on a new F150 crew cab and have at least 7k equity in it at this time. I'm not in dire need to sell by any means, but now have an itch that needs scratching.

Yea the H17 Xpress w/ 115 4stroke

Had a call from Pascagoula, and one guy from Thib that was very interested and wanted more pics but that's about as far as it goes.
Gonna drive about 45 min an meet and elderly couple at False River tomorrow but I get the vibe it's gonna be a showing where they want to think about it a while since they seem unsure of what they want to buy in the first place.

I'm gonna have a hard time selling it because its not a steal by no means but new enough that someone could save several thousand by buying used vs new

I sold my boat last summer. I listed it in numerous places. Then I created a shutterfly page about it (free). I put a link in the adds to the web page. It had over 50 pics, all the boat description off the manufactures site. I also added maintainence history, everything I could think off. This eliminated the need to answer numerous calls. I never offered to take the boat anywhere. I allowed viewing at my house and then a test drive. I live 2 min from boat launch.

Sold it to someone from Alabama. Very easy sale. Full price.

Keep doing what you're doing FTF.

It is Winter. I bet a lot more buyers in the next two months.

Sold my Xpress last summer, took several lookers.

Got it spic-n-span? I even shampooed the carpet. Buyer later told me he could tell by the carpet how well it was maintained. Okay...

Where are you advertising it? Pretty sure I saw it somewhere, c'list?

I've got a place on Airline if you ever want to put it there for a long weekend or something.

Call me crazy but I don't like strangers coming to my house to look at something like a boat for sale.

Too many thieves that do that only to come back and steal it later or steal something off of it. I've seen it happen too many times.

Having said that. I wouldn't be driving all over the place either. It would be a place close to my house.

One other thing... If your ad is the one that I'm thinking of, you have the price and then mention something about you've got to get what you owe on it.

As a buyer, I don't care what you owe on it.

If you want that much, that just needs to be the value of the boat... nothing to do with your finances.

Edit: And get rid of the scratches comment. Go get some paint and make the scratches go away. And then add more pics. Get em to love it when they read the ad.

No way.

I've always told potential buyers that (a) if we agree on a price, then (b) we'll go launch the boat and run it to satisfy him that it will perform just as I said it would (handling, speed, accessories, etc.).

I added the "what I owe" part so people would get the point that it is firm and non negotiable. Also I think I have a problem underselling the boat because I don't want my time wasted. I'd rather them know all the bad ahead of time. Prob could get some paint and cover them. Thanks for the advice though. I may quit trying to sell it till march. Don't have to sell it, just rather invest that money in a top notch deer lease
