The mrs. had her purse stolen yesterday that contained our children's ss #s and obvious other things like credit cards. No keys. What should I consider doing that I may not be thinking, like deactivate facebook accounts, invest in skynet, etc? Seriously, I may be overlooking some obvious things and appreciate your help. TIA

Given that you lost the SS info. I would probably spend the cash to subscribe to one of those identity protection services for a year or two. The big one, can't think of the name right now, even comes with an insurance policy.

Call the cops and report it if you haven't, inform social security office, and cancel all cards that can be used.

That's a good idea to deactivate your Facebook. I wouldn't have thought of that. Sorry for the assholes that live in our world.

Move to a town in Mexico and start over as the Juarez family. Sew yourselves into the community, work hard, assimilate into the culture.

Once you've established yourselves hire a coyote and sneak back into America. Once there find a place to live on the outskirts of town so not to draw suspicion. Find odd jobs to pay the rent and try to save what you can.

Then after a couple years of manual labor pay someone on the black market to get you and your family fake identities and social security numbers. Then reassimilate back into the American Society with your new identities.

I know this doesn't pertain to what you asked, but what were the circumstances? Did someone just take it when she wasn't looking?

Credit cards and debit obviously. Amazon and paypal accounts if you have any.

SS#'s are tough. I would call office to inform and seek advise. Obvious problems with kids SS#'s getting taken but also maybe problems for them later if you change them?

Having two accounts on same names etc..?

Damn that sucks, sorry to hear that. Did somebody walk up and jerk it out of her arm, or was it on the front seat in plain sight and somebody broke the window out?

Why would you need to deactivate Facebook?

Now this is good advice.

Thanks for the identity coverage company idea! Did that. Also am calling the IRS fraud dept. to keep from having returns done illegally. I don't want someone getting a false refund when I have to pay every year!

I'm trying to find a hole in this plan but I can't. This clever bastard has thought of everything. Good luck.

Not wanting to rub salt in the wound, but she did the thing we can refer to here as "stupid":
Went to walk in the park yesterday morning with the girls and brought her purse (why?), comes back to find 3 other cars broke into as well. She is understandably sorrowful.

That can happen to anybody. At least it was non-violent. I'm guessing the thug that stole it is probably too dumb to do anything with the info that was in there. Do the obvious things, i.e. file a police report, cancel the cards, document everything, track things for awhile. I honestly don't think you have too much to be fearful of. I'd be more worried if I'd shopped at Target lately. Probably just some druggie or alcoholic looking for cash.

Banker that's not stupid. My purse is always either with me or in the car ... I run and mine stays in the car (locked of course which matters not of course). Easier to take whole purse than just license ... cause THEN you forget to put license BACK in purse and get a ticket for driving without if ever stopped!

Hope it's all good .. especially with the SS cards.

Why does she have the SS#s in her purse?

Keep that shite locked up at home and memorize it.
