Does anyone know if you can access Cat Island by boat from the MS river when the water is high? TIA

If you just want to fish or camp on Cat Island wouldn't you just trailer to Pass Christian?

But if you enter from the river in your boat when the river is flooded up, aren't you just in navigable water?

actually there was a lawsuit that ruled that specifically not true. you can't go on someone's property next to the river just because it's flooded and "navigable".

and lawyers aside, the GW will enforce it as if you are on NWR property. even if the law is technically on your side you'll still have to spend days of your PTO to fight it. i am all about taking full advantage of my rights to hunt public land, but motoring up in flooded land because it's "navigable" is not right IMO.

Unfortunately yes. During low water you are only allowed to access the refuge through one entrance legally. During high water the refuge is closed. We've been stopped multiple times crossing the refuge going to private property. Green Jeans hiding in the bushes on the canals waiting for boats to come through. Even with special use permits to cross the refuge to get to our property they give us a hard time.

Ground only. Nearest boat launch is the old ferry landing in St.Francisville. During low water when its open there isnt many places to use a boat and I think motorized boats arent allowed.

During high water you can launch in St.Francisville and go up river and get to the refuge but again, enter at your own risk

no i don't want to enter illegally. it just makes scouting a lot easier to have a boat. actually for hunting i don't mind the hiking at all.

thanks for the info tho.

They are issued to private land owners that are land locked by the refuge
