Lovie Smith
Are we to be scared as Saints' fans?

New OC Jeff Tedford has a pretty solid offensive mind

They're putting together a pretty good staff there. Lovie, Tedford, and Frazier. That's a pretty good coaching staff, and we all know they have the pieces on defense to contend. I know they really want Manziel here, so they may try and trade up, even with Houston for the #1. I'm definitely expecting them to turn things around pretty quick in TB.

I don't know how that hire will play out but if I was a Bucs or Lions fan I would be pretty pissed off. I don't want a recycled former NFL head coach. Give me an up and comer younger minded guy.

I'd be ecstatic if I were a Bucs fan. Lovie is a good coach

I think he can be their Jim Mora. Get the team to relevance but always fall short in the playoffs. Playoffs!

I want them to be good. I like when other teams in the division are good, because it keeps us focused and playing our best. Look at Sea and SF success; it didn't hurt either of them one bit. Ari was very tough too. I believe when you play bad teams all year, then you aren't ready to handle the good teams in the playoffs

I agree. When Lovie was with the Bears he brought them to the Bowl and multiple playoff appearances. The guy goes 10-6 and then gets canned. Still don't get that. He's arguably a much better coach than Jon Gruden, and yet everyone always talks about teams wanting Gruden. I don't get that either.

I would, however; be pissed if I was a Lions fan.

Not as many as people think. They only went 3 out of 9 years. One trip to the Super Bowl and the other 2 were 1 and done(3-3 record in the playoffs).

He is a good not great coach. As stated IMO not really a get you over the hump as far as winning consistent championships.

I said this in an earlier thread, and I'm sticking to it.

Tampa has a lot of young defensive talent and Lovie is a good defensive coach. But the Tampa 2 isn't the defensive hallmark it once was. I think they will still be a good defensive team. I think he helps make them a consistent 7 to 9 win team year in and year out.

It will be interesting to see who they pick in the draft if a guy like Mosley, Barr or even Clowney falls to them.

If I was a buc's fan, I would be pretty happy over the hire. Proven coach with a good track record.

All that being said, it doesn't really worry me.

Recycling coaches is pretty normal in the NFL, though. And consider the list of last year's NFL coaches who have previously head-coached a different NFL team: John Fox, Andy Reid, Bill Belichek, Tom Coughlin, Pete Carroll, Jeff Fisher. Four of six of them made the playoffs and three made their conference championship game. Not too shabby for being recycled.

Bumped because it's a year later and I started it.

Are we scared of Lovie yet?
