A friend took the CC class with me back in March and hasn't applied for his permit yet. How long is that class good for? I'd assume 12 months

This threat isn't about renewing a a valid license. It's about getting a license once you take the class.

Crazy but you don't have to take any class here. just walk in and get your license. 1 year for $20 or 5 year for $100

In MS, you fill out an application, pay $132, wait 45 days, and then they mail you your license and it's good for five years.

This. I didn't realize a class was a "requirement" in LA. It isn't in MS.

LA permits are also recognized by a lot more States than ms or AL (AL has same procedure). Good if you travel a lot but nearly useless for most. My instructor told me that the class was good for 6 months. He had to send me a new certificate around month 8 so I could get mine submitted.

I think MS has reciprocity with a lot of States.

Lots, yes. Same as LA, no.

However, LA has the most of any state and many states that I'll never visit. I'd much rather pay, $50 than take a class and pay $125.

He ended up calling me...

I think it's a year though.

And ICS is right. I like how much reciprocity we get with other states through a LA permit, but I would prefer the simple application to get certified.

Georgia requires you to fill out an application. Then here in Columbus you go into an office with no windows to be fingerprinted by one deputy while the biggest SOB I have ever seen standa at the door with his hand on his gun. 11 days later I had my card in the mail. Georgia reciprocates with a all of the southeast except South Carolina. Personally I have no need to carry outside the southeast at present and I have zero plans for traveling to SC any time soon.

12 months from the date on the certificate. I just turned mine in after taking the class in May.

It's not a threat, either.

You have one year from the date on your certificate of completing the class. I kept putting it off and had to get court documents for an MIP, so it took me forever to get it done. I had to call the office to clear up a few things, and that was one of the things.
