It truly is. It's amazing how much of a hassle the flying process has become after 9/11.

Even if you only fly internationally 2-3 times/year :

Lounge access for a 2+ hour layover to sit and relax and have a couple of free drinks and snacks.

Premium class boarding so you aren't standing at the gate for 30 minutes and walk right to your seat.

Eating/drinking not just to eat because it's there, but actually decent quality food and drink.

Lay flat seats and getting real sleep.

Hop off the plane and bypassing the hour wait sometimes at immigration with Global Entry or Pre check.

I know a lot of people who just see the flying experience as a process that gets them where they need to go, but this hobby allows many of us to actually enjoy the experience which sometimes can be 2-3 days of your vacation.

First class is always going to be an enjoyable experience.

Now the challenge is for the airlines to make economy an enjoyable experience.

What Delta has done with the new Comfort+ (economy comfort) is a step in the right direction. It is affordable for the average Joe and caters to freq flyers. If you want a better experience without shoveling out tons of $$$ Comfort+ is probably your best option right now on any airline. Another reason why DL is overall a far superior airline.

I always bite the bullet and get a bulkhead seat in the row right behind first class if I fly economy.

Meh... I get sky priority lane already and upgraded to 1st class around 80% of the time.

This is all about not having to take my laptop out of the bag

ou can get Global Entry for free and $200 in travel expenses reimbursed on that card. Plus Starwood Gold. It's certainly worth it for a year considering those benefits plus the 100k points.

Yeah, I'd jump on that offer in a heartbeat. I never get the 100k offer though. I'm about to do GE soon anyway and recouping the $200 would be easy, so there's $300. 100k AMEX pernts has to be worth at least $1,000, right? Plus Starwood Gold is

And the year you sign up, you actually can get the $200 reimbursement twice since it is based on a calendar year (not your membership year). On top of that, the Centurion lounges are really nice if you can take advantage of them. But regardless of that, I'd pay $450 for 100,000 membership reward points all day long.

Centurion Lounge in Miami is due to open this summer. Nearly all of my Caribbean trips layover in Miami.

Question- I am about to cancel my amex gold card as my renewal is coming up and dont want to pay the fee. Should I cancel first and then apply for another amex card with free 1st year like delta one or should I apply for the card first and then cancel the gold card? Or does it matter?

Doesn't matter as long as you don't exceed the Amex limits for cards which I believe is 4 of each type (personal and business). Do you have points on the current card? If so, you're going to want to be able to keep those points by having another card in the system when you cancel.

What Buckeye said.

You should also consider getting a no fee Amex card at the same time like one of the Blue series. You'll get the initial 2-5 point hit on your score, but it will pay off by year 2 if you're still flipping cards. Amex uses your longest open card as the age of all of your cards.

Thanks for the info. I already cashed in my points so I'm good there. I also got the 150k offer for an amex buisness platinum but have to spend 10k in first 3 months for 100k points and then can earn an additional 50k in points for spending another 10k during that time period. Not traveling much at the moment but would be nice to be able to take advantage

I do have the blue. I never spend money on it though. Do i need to spend a certain amount on it per year for it to stay active?

Good deal.
I'd break it out a couple of times a year for something random. Just to make sure they don't cancel it for non use.

Just use it once in a while. I generally put a recurring monthly cost on something that's in the sock drawer (really, that's where I keep them) to keep it active.

Would you sign up for that offer if you got it?

Absolutely. Regardless of what I had going on travel wise. That's probably one of the best, if not the best, sign up offer for any card.
The airline credits can almost completely negate the annual fee by taking $200 this year and $200 next year. They are based on a calendar year and not on the card year.

I'm not worried about the annual fee. It's spending 10k in 3 months with not much business going on

Avios are more valuable that AA miles for American Airlines domestic flights.

Yeah, I would be all over them if I lived on the mainland. From here though, AA is the best as I can go from HNL to MSY for 35k and I do it regularly. Everyone else is minimum of 40k. Avios would be more in my situation I think since no matter what I have to stop somewhere.

Citi Prestige Now 50k Bonus

quote:

Very nice, something new!
Looking through the perks:
$250 airline credit looks useful, each year gets $500 in the first year of card membership. Unlike Amex plat it doesn't look like you have to specify an airline which is nice.
Admirals club comes with guest access, which is much better than the AA plat or gold card offers IIRC.
The 4th night free looks like a bit of a scam. Got to go through their travel agent, so unlikely to see the best rate. What's the point of getting a free night if you're overpaying for the others.
Other than that, 50k Thank You Points. I feel like we need to have a discussion about what these things are really worth. I'm not planning on spending $250, $250, $625 on flights in the next 12 months given my miles and Amex airline credit as well, and I certainly don't want gift cards. What else can we do with these things?

It is a good card and I will get it if offer is still available this summer. My hope is that Citi adds AA to their list of transferable partners of the Thank You points program.

Good but you have to be flying AA/USAir to gain access. That sucks.
