If you want status you're going to have to A) pay a high yearly fee for something like the Ritz Carlton card that give you Marriott Gold status or B) pick a chain and build up status over time.

I want a card that gets me the best upgrades, no wait lines, etc at hotels...my main overnight is Jackson, New Orelans, dallas and Austin

I'd go with the AMEX SPG biz card if you spend >$30k. I get upgraded almost everytime I stay at an SPG property with gold, but on Flyertalk reports vary depending on region. It's by far the best everday spender hotel CC IMO.

Chase Hyatt gives you platinum. Which isn't much, but it's a start and I find their award redemption values to be a very good value for an everyday spender.

I have the Chase IHG card and it gives you platinum(which isn't much either), I bought the Ambassador - $200. I've only had 4 stays in IHG properties since getting Ambassador and have been upgraded every time in New Orleans & Chicago. It's not an everyday spender though.

The Ritz, like Buckeye said, is definitely a good card for at least the sign up bonus and gold status if you stay in RC properties.

Amex Platinum gives you SPG gold automatically as well plus all the other benefits and all the transfer partners. Just a high annual fee.

Another thought for those with amex points. With Copa airlines starting non stop service to panama in the summer, you will be able to book award flights on Copa Airlines using ANA points which is a transfer partner of amex. 22k points roundtrip and you can have up to 4 stopovers. You could potentially get some serious value out of that ticket.

Anyone have experience with Virgin Flight Club? I might do the 1:1 trade ratio that they have. I do need to check out the other clubs though. I'd prefer to use my points for a flight to Australia and I'm not seeing one with Virgin.

I'm flying Virgin Atlantic Upper Class (or whatever they call first class) to London in June. Most research I could find was that they offered a really good first class product. 125K skymiles RT fwiw

Virgin charges serious fuel charges on a lot of their routes. Not your best bet if you're trying to get an award flight close to free. You could always transfer in to Delta and book a Virgin Australia flight, but it's going to be 100k Delta points RT in coach I think.

Anyone here have the US airways credit card? I have a few questions.

1. They are offering 50k signup bonus. Should me and my wife apply to get 100k miles?

2. They are merging with american airlines. will my miles be good with american airline flights that i book on us airways.com?

That's my other option. I should be going to London in November and thought about using them then. I've only got about 105k points and have thought about saving them.

ETA: I just looked at their spending calculator and it say 80k from JFK to LHR but about $1200 in surcharges.

Who are your points with? I used DL Skymiles and booked Virgin Atlantic through DL. 125k miles and $300 in fees/surcharges RT.

I saw that. I'll have to check their schedules again to see if I can get it to work.

Appreciate you throwing that my way

Hell, actually 150k points, I got another 50k points just for recommending the card to people.

How do you get 50k points from USAir? I got the card first and looked around the site and didn't see a referral bonus. Did I miss it when I got my wife to sign up?

I got a targeted email getting 10k per referral up to 50k. Easy card to recommend for $89, no spend, and 50k easy to use points.

Amex announced new benefits for PRG cards yesterday. LINK

Summary:
2x points at restaurants
$100 airline credit per year
No foreign transaction fees
$20 price hike

I'm excited about the 2x restaurant points.

Me too. That and 3x gas and the frequent 30-40% avois bonuses. Pretty easy to rack up some points with this card. It's worth considering keeping.

It's my go to gas card. Offers the same at restaurants as Chase but Amex points seem to be more valuable for my use.

I keep missing these targeted offers

Although, I did get an AA MasterCard targeted offer of 3 points per dollar at gas stations, restaurants, grocery, etc until March 31. Keep a look out if you have that card, you need to sign up by tomorrow.
